Wow. We've actually gone what seems like an eternity without any composer's score being rejected from a movie.
    A new standard perhaps?

Maybe all scores are equally lame so rejecting one lame score and replacing it by another is seen as useless expenses.

Oh - so close. Rumor on the scorereviews.com page that Yared is off Troy and being replaced with Horner.
Someone also said that any mention of Yared's score on his site is gone, so ... can this be my first 2004 addition?

So, perhaps AICN was right about the Troy score; if they noticed how awful it was, surely other people did, too. Wolgang Peterson and Horner, though: Last time wasn't so good (The Perfect Storm).

Justin, do you really have nothing else better to do with your time? Haha.

I didn't mind The Perfect Storm -- while it is a culmination of a lot of other efforts, I find myself enjoying it from time to time.

Personally I hope this is not the case. I am hoping Yared is able to show he can write for this genre of film.

If it is true, it's a shame because he dropped out of scoring Jean-Jacques Annaud's "Two Brothers" to score this film. ("Two Brothers" is being scored by Stephen Warbeck.)

It was Yared's score for Annaud's "Wings of Courage" that makes me think he is capable of a wider variety of film scoring than most are giving him credit for.

Wolgang Petersen is not easy on his composers. It wouldn't surprise me that Yared is gone. He seems to choose composers willy-nilly just cause he's never worked with them before and, when they don't provide him with exactly what he wants..."Buh-Bye."

Randy Newman, for example, scoring a presidential action/blockbuster? Interesting (and his score, while not right for Petersen's movie, in my opinion, was still an excellent score) choice...but gone.

Has he worked with ANY composer more than once (aside from Horner, if rumors are correct)?

    Shattered - Silvestri
    Outbreak - Howard
    Air Force One - R. Newman/Goldsmith
    Perfect Storm - Horner
In the Line of Fire - Morricone
    Enemy Mine - Jarre
    Neverending Story - Giorgio Moroder
Das Boot - Klaus Dolinger (sp?)

Seems to me that he goes with who is apparently popular at the time...and is shocked when they don't give him their most recent scores...

He worked with Doldinger on Das Boot and The Neverending Story.

Jeron, you're right actually, I still listen to Perfect Storm every now and then; I thought the main theme was awesome when I first got it, and it's still good.

Wolfgang Peterson: Bad movie maker. Das Boot is the only good movie that he's made, and that's only good for one viewing, IMO. Did that film copy a long line of submarine movies or was it the first to introduce the formula? FORMULA: submerge scene, torpedo fight scene, scene where the submarine must go REALLY , really deep and bolts start coming loose, and also the famous scene where everyone on board must be very quiet or they'll be blown to pieces.

NP: Cocoon - James Horner ****/*****

And did we forget so soon about the JNH/Zimmer score for SECRET WINDOW getting the axe (as much as I would've loved to hear what the score sounded like, Philip Glass did a wonderful job on the film).

As for Wolfgang Petersen, I'm defending OUTBREAK. A well-acted, suspenseful and exciting (and at times, humorous) thriller, with an excellent JNH score.

James Newton Howard pulled out of Secret Window because he was busy with Hidalgo; there was no axe. And Hans Zimmer followed suit, so it doesn't qualify as rejected, IMO.

I actually liked The Perfect Storm (both as movie and a little less as score).
