Great news! Certainly something I'm interested in, though I'm not sure when I'll be able to get it.

I'm afraid it's been far too long since I've seen "The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao," does that score have circus music in it, since the film involved a traveling circus, from what I can remember? Or is the theme like a waltz, or whatnot? I'm just interested in hearing more about this score since the film itself looks like it inspired a great one, from what I remember about the movie itself.

And there is a lot here I never thought would ever see the light of day. Looks like a job well done.

I hope the CD does well for you. Unfortunately, this "suitelet" approach is something I do not enjoy. One Silva Screen is enough for me. I fear that too many people who love film music will stay away from this approach in the hopes that more representative suites will be offered by somebody at a later date.

If no other tracks existed, I could understand, but they do. Perhaps four or five films would have been a little more respectful to the composers rather than trying to put a little bit of everything on there. And the tracks for The Power were already released by Prometheus. While "Rozsa" is a good name to have on a disc, I would think many Rozsa fans already have those tracks.

I applaud you on your work, but hope that future releases are less "samplers" and more film score releases. Please try to treat the Lone Wolf and Cub series a little differently, if at all possible. Fans of the series will probably buy just as many CDs if you don't try to fit tiny bits of everything on there, and it will make for a more consistent and faithful listening experience.

The Power by Prometheus was not as official of a release as some may have liked. It was never officially licensed by Turner/Warner Bros, but that was long ago and a VERY different time.Regretfully, the deal that we had with the Pal estate and Warner Bros/Turner allowed us to only release suites from those films. The disc is designed as a tribute to the legendary George Pal. Perhaps, one day, some of these complete scores will be released.

As for our upcoming Lone Wolf and Cub cd ALL EXISTING MUSIC has been included on this disc. . .a little over 45 minutes of music.

MV, how about the "Dr. Lao" score. What's it like? Circus music?

Thanks for the explanation. I've done projects involving the estates of famous people, so I know how you have to balance what you want to do with what they think is the proper tribute. Unfortunately, too often the estates don't understand that a tribute and a very successful product can be two different things. I applaud you on your efforts, as I said before.

I know that the earlier LP and CD release of The Power was unauthorized, but as it came from Rozsa's own tape collection, the audio quality was superb.

Regarding The Lone Wolf and Cub, will the contents be essentially the same as the music related to those films on the 1998 Japanese "Goyokiba/Kozure Ookami" CD?:

Yes, but the sound quality has improved and the liner notes by Randall Larson are simply amazing. . .not to mention Mark Banning's great artwork design.

Since the cd release was very difficult to come by in the US (and quite expensive) Toho and La La Land felt this would be the ideal time to re-introduce those scores to people here in the states. Also, we are working in conjunction with Animeigo, the company releasing those amazing films on dvd.

We hope this collection sells well. If so, we plan on further exploring scores to the Zatoichi Films, Lady Snowblood, and the likes. . .

MV, how about the "Dr. Lao" score. What's it like? Circus music? Not to be snotty, but this is the third time I've asked. Thanks in advance.

Sorry. I've been going back and forth between emails, postings and packing up the Galactica orders.

To answer your question - no. It's more of a playful western tune with some Asian influences. It also has some beautiful haunting music for Appolonius. And the Pan Flute dance is my favorite track on the whole cd. Sound bytes will be posted soon.

The Zatoichi films are incredible. The music isn't quite as memorable as a lot of other Japanese music, but then, second-rate Ifukube music is better than first-rate music by many other composers. I would assume that many of the Zatoichi fans have the three CDs released by King Records in 1998, so if there's any way to entice those buyers by offering some cues never-before-released, that would certainly persuade buyers like me to purchase your CD(s).

Are you working with Toho regarding any of their sci-fi/fantasy/horror music, or are they very proprietary about Baran, Gojira, Matango, and their ilk?
