    http://www.sonymusicstore.com has audio clips.

Not what I expected. Sounds like there are some electronic beats in there. I bet Gladiator was on the temp track too. And that Shawn Murphy was involved given the volume difference within even the 30 second clips.

Eh I've listened to it a few times (28 minutes), and haven't even really developed an opinion that really reflects the truth of what I think. I'm pretty much undecided.

It's certainly listenable music, and enjoyable music at that, but it's not quite as ravishing as I thought it might be. Yes, I do did notice some Gladiator influences, and am sure there was some temp-track there. I also sent the first track to TimT, and he said it sounded a bit Revell-esque, and I'd be inclined to agree.

It's very well written music, and I do in fact like it; last night I listened to it with the lights out, lying down, with a fantastic pair of stereo headphones, and it was a much better experience.

Anyway, thematically, I don't believe it's quite as rich or full as one might expect, but maybe that's a good thing.

Gimme a little longer to form a better opinion.

Mark, it's a promo, so I doubt it's what the final release will be like. Nonetheless it has track titles, so this may indeed me it. Dunno.

Hmmm.... I've just listened to the clips, and I'm a little underwhelmed. I'll wait till I've heard it all to pass judgment though. Like Dinko, this isn't at all what I was expecting, and I may need to get over that before I can appreciate the music for what it is.

That's an interesting comment. Someone on the FSM message board claimed that Gerrard's recently released CD called "Immortal Memory" could not be in any way related to any work she might have done for Passion of The Christ. I find it quite a coincidence, however, given the deeply religious titles of most of her tracks on the Immortal Memory CD.

By the way I listened to the clips linked to above and actually found them quite enjoyable. Kind of a cross between Ararat and Braveheart with a chorus thrown into the mix.

And notice that the language used on the CD were Aramaic also.

Films like this one reply more on images to tell the story, not the music. Music helps sure, but its the power of the images.

The clips are great, and I can't wait to hear the rest of it.

I was really shocked by the surprise quote of Debney's own theme to SEAQUEST DSV in the middle of THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, but other than that, sounds good.

I feel that way with every movie and its score! Makes more of an impact when the music is heard in the film.

Since this movie looks so funny and awful, it's a relief that the score sounds so good. Braveheart? No way! There are some massive hints at Gladiator and Black Hawk Down in there, though. And that's fine, I just can't wait for this CD—it sounds great!

Hey guys, I don't know if you've forgotten, but John Debney is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life. Passing your negative judgement on the work of someone so nice means you are a bad person, and obviously you don't hear in his music how genuinely nice of a guy he really is.

Shame on you guys! Why don't instead pass the time by playing a little solitaire?

Jusdging by the clips this is more in the vein of PETER GABRIEL'S LAST TEMPTAION OF CHRIST -the moody ambiance is certainly the same and correct. For a film that is period in the first place and has ancient dialogue, an orchestral/symphonic appraoach woule have been very anachronistic. I like the fact that the DUDUK- An Armenian wind instrument is used prominently here-yes this was also used in GLADIATOR but I was first introduced to in LAST TEMPTATION.

So far it seems in the right direction, pity they didnt use Lisa Gerrad's vocals here as it would be more intresting(she has a great emotional voice and depth)

This score will really put John Debney on the map.

    Amer

Hmm, doesn't sound too bad. Although the electronic drums doesn't sound appropriate at all and a bit cheesy for a historic film like The Passion of the Christ. I think Debney knows better than that, but maybe he was forced to use them. And my first impression is that Gladiator music is indeed all over the place. But I think highly of Debney and I must say that audio clips only give a vague idea of the entire score.

BTW here's a direct URL to the audio clips: http://www.sonymusicstore.com/store/catalog/MerchandiseDetails.jsp?merchId=61768&mname=CD

Sometimes I try to imagine what a composer might come up with for a film. From the small samples I've heard I was pretty close, although I didn't expect some of the electronic elements.

Usually I can get a feel for a film score by listening to the clips but this one may take a full listen.

Hey now, Matchstick Men isn't poop, Spy Kids 3D is bad, but it's in 3D, so it's fun to watch with friends (we watched it a private screening of it at the theatre we worked at and it was just fun to make fun of it... but the 3Dness didn't work that well...) I haven't seen The Missing but my mom is a huge Tommy Lee Jones fan so she wants that. But I DEFFINATELY want Matchstick Men and this CD.

Does anyone really think this film will actually find its way to general release? What is the announced release date? Seems like so far it's just being shown piecemeal to very small groups of Mel's friends. From all I've heard, it seems to be a leading candidate for this year's "Heaven's Gate" award!

Just judging from the trailer... it doesn't look like Mel's film is a miscast, sepia-toned, overlong, overbudget, heartless western about to crash a studio. But maybe you know something about the film we don't.

Take any religious film and release it theatrically to the public and boom, immediate controversy. I am anixous to see this film and hear the beautiful score provided by Mr Debney. I admit I had my heart set on Lisa because of her familiar sound, but I didn't stop to think about the many scores Debney produced that I loved. Great decision in my opinion!

I received a review copy of the Girrard disc without a booklet so it is hard to tell if the music on that CD was written for the movie. My suspicion is that it is unused or rejected music. It is a very ambient disc in a kind of Medieval/New Age style.

Gotta but in here to say this...sorry lol, feel free to ignore.

Shaun...52 of them! Take a good look at 'em, Shaun, look at 'em, and while you're looking, listen. This is me, Alex, talking. 52 red queens and me are telling you... you know what we're telling you? It's over! The links, the beautifully conditioned links are smashed. They're smashed as of now because we say so, because we say they are to be smashed. We're busting up the joint, we're tearing out all the wires. We're busting it up so good all the queen's horses and all the queen's men will never put old Shaun back together again. You don't work any more! That's an order. Anybody invites you to a game of solitaire, you tell 'em sorry, buster, the ball game is over.

    On to the score...

I will go see the movie, and most likely get the score. The clips I heard were very promising.

This really is an excellent score. The more I listen to it, the more I find myself totally absorbed by it's powers.

Probably the best score I've heard by Debney, but I've only heard half a dozen or so... And, I really do need to listen to Cutthroat Island again.

Anywho, I think people will be impressed.
