Hello,I've been hearing some rumors lately that Media Ventures has tumbled (i.e. is no more, or will be no more soon). Is this true, and if so, what is happening and how did it happen?
I must say that by not being a fan of MV, they have impressed me recently, but particularly Hans Zimmer and his incredible accordion-laden score for "Matchstick Men," the most authentic and lovely homage to Nino Rota's music since "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" or "Big Top Pee-Wee," something I never even imagined Zimmer was capable of doing. There's also rising composer Jim Dooley, who's work he has on his site is fun (especially that "Circus Freak Productions" logo music), and John Powell, who's style seems to be developing with his recent work (particularly with the cues I've heard from Agent Cody Banks).
Anyway, one thing MV is certainly doing is maturing into something more interesting and different. So, what's going on, are they splitting up? What's next for them then?

Whatever the rumors, I hope Mr Steve Jablonsky, Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell and the MV assistants all continue their success with their score making. Outstanding talent in my opinion

Here's the composers line upHans Zimmer - has a vision of what MV should be, branching out further.
Mark Mancina, Jeff Rona, HGW & John Powell - none of them were assistants to Hans, left MV several years ago. They've branched out and established their own studio independent of MV. So in future discussion of MV, they shouldn't be mention.
Klaus Badelt - former assistant to no one, will become one of the leading name of that vision.
Gavin Greenaway - the rarely heard collaborator of John Powell left with Powell, and often appear conducting Powell's score.
James Dooley - Hans's former assistant, has been getting steady gig scoring for TV and docus. He'll probably, like with other assistants, get shared credits with Hans in the beginning, to establish his own creds, before scoring on his own.
Geoff Zanelli - Powell's old assistant, has been establishing a unique sound for himself. Hopefully, he'll get bigger and more prominent project.
Steve Jablonsky - HGW's former right hand man, will prove that he'll be pretty good
Texas Chainsaw Massacre was interesting though. Ramin Djawadi - Badelt's assistant will be doing more film gig, albeit in a smaller co-composition credit type. His style is yet to be developed.
Martin Tillman - composer/MV's resident cellist often work with
Mel Wesson - sound designer/composer, not really an MVer since he lives in England, but he does hookup now and then.
Rupert Gregson Williams - Hooks up with MV now and then. He first started his work doing 3 minor, minor cues on POE.
James McKee Smith - composer/guitarist in his own right, does mostly co-compostion for John Powell, along with some side job with MV.
Blake Neely - composer for Everwood, written his own Piano for Dummies book, recently done some conducting and arrangement for Hans and MV and will continue to do so. If his work on Everwood is any indication, he's one to look for in the future.
Nick Glennie Smith - still stuck in a rut, doing small credits co-composition, got some scores rejected, he might go back to MV sooner than we think.
Justin Caine Burnett - did one big score, Dungeon and Dragon, and has been very quiet since.
The above are my observations, culling from various sources. There are so many talents that's waiting to burst out of MV's two building that it'll be a shame if MV go under. But I doubt it. MV is just one branch of the big enterprise Hans has helped realized. They're starting to get their hand into most facets of the entertainment industry. Soon, we'll see them producing songs and artists, doing records. Sounds exciting...

I know, HadrianD, and i'm still waiting too. I sent the second parts interview a few months ago, just after his answers, but never got his replies. I contact him again a few days ago, still no feedback.
I guess i must forget the end of the interview. Too bad, as i think the first part is not so good, just a few introduction of himself. But, i can assure you, i got all the interview with Geoff Zanelli, and it is much more interesting.
Hope the first part please you as i think it is much more detailed.posted 01-27-2004 05:25 PM PT (US)

Hope the first part please you as i think it is much more detailed. That sucks... It's nice to know more about these future headliners of MV. You're right about the Jim Dooley interview. There's not alot of the insights that we found with the Zanelli interview, even though half of it weren't news to me either. I look forwward to the next installments
