Heres wishing you all a great new year and that you all had a great Christmas. Looking for this new year.

The CR link site at Screen Archives Entertainment:

Just listening to all the samples over there that Craig and the team have done and are doing on Newman, Friedhofer and some from Tiomkin and STeiner also. I have bought several of them so far and will buy more. I am very grateful that all this good stuff is coming out. Thanks to Craig and all the others involved there for the fine work.

Comments on some of the scores and samples over there:

1. Battle Cry-the Steiner tune is so much better with full orchestra than on the weak vocals and 45s that I have. Really good.

2. The orignal Capt from CAstile is great-super percussion and great orchestra

3. I have Wilson, Down to Sea, Bluebird and Dragonwyck-all are excellent. I have always liked the march in Wilson in all its forms. Very good but overly long film. The Twelve O Clock High score is very short but good. I like all the trailer versions a lot.

4. The upcoming Keys of Kingdom and Black Swan have great sound. Exc scores.

5. Big Sky-only had that short cue on the RCA lp before. This is beautiful.

6. Between these great releases and those from Varese and FSM, Koch and Marco Polo, we are getting so many rare Newman scores I never thought we would see. Its great. Thanks to them all.

John.

And a Happy New Year to you, John. I just had a look at the Screen Archives site. As time goes by I'm becoming more and more interested in Golden Age scores (or perhaps I should say I'm becoming increasingly less interested in current ones). It's great to have all those vintage scores coming out, but so frustrating we can't buy them ALL (even if we had the money, who's got the time?) But big thumbs up!
