This film looks awesome. Does anyone know who's scoring it? (The David Arnold music on the trailer worked really well, but I'm not interested in him scoring this film; also, does anyone which score the music is from, Stargate or Independence Day?)

Hellboy, as well, looks really cool. Does anyone who's scoring this?

I've just been snooping at Quicktime and catching up on trailers—lots of pleasent surprises.

EVERYTHING looks awesome in the trailer. Funny how 90% of films, in their final form, turn out to be incredibly disappointing affairs.(i.e. unconscienable, indefensible crap).

I'd like to go to the movies and just watch 90 minutes straight of trailers. That way I know I'll get my money's worth. Maybe they can get Edward Shearmur to score it.

HELLBOY is being scored by Marco Beltrami. On the web site of the film's director, Guillermo del Toro, he's talked in the past about how most of his music collection is made up of film scores, and when a fan suggested once that a certain band should have a song in HELLBOY, his response was, "I'll check them out, but (don't be angry) there aren't really songs in our film. It's mostly score."

Good stuff. I was unimpressed with Del Toro's MIMIC and BLADE 2, but I love his Spanish film THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE. Not to be missed. He wants to do an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS next (it'll probably depend on the success of HELLBOY), and that sounds quite promising to me.

And SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW looks interesting, even though I'm not a fan of the way films with that much green screen look. It's a little too reminiscent of ATTACK OF THE CLONES, which (unfortunately) is not a good thing. I'm waiting for a really good follow-up to Shearmur's COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO, so that aspect at least is exciting.

And I don't comnpletely agree with what David says (there are some really bad trailers out there), but there is nevertheless some truth in it. That teaser for RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE is fantastic, but I still don't have any desire to see the movie.

I'm sorry, but after seeing this preview, this film looks like total crap to me. I'm sure it costed alot to make, and I'm sure it will bomb at the theaters.
It looks like The Rocketeer but flying a plane instead.

Sky Captain looks like a lot of fun... My jaw dropped when I saw the trailer. It made me think of a great DC Comics series called Terminal City but brought to life. Very retro, very cool...

Couple points:

1) The film looks like it might be fun (though unfortunately the audience did not respond well to the trailer...more like "What the hell was that?"

2) I believe the music in the trailier was Stargate.

3) Shearmur...excellent choice!! After Reign of Fire and Count of Monte Cristo I am looking forward to hearing what he comes up with.

I think this a film to keep your mind open about. It might very well turn out to be pure cheese-crap, but I'm willing to go with it for now.

Happy Holidays everybody!

Zak

I guess you must have forgotten that life existed before 1991.

Having seen this trailer, I'm equally excited. That could be just me happy in that naughty kind of way for Angelina Jolie with an eye patch on, but I'm skipping past that since we actually haven't see a film like this a long time, and I'll take this kind of film over the medieval epic or the overblown World War II epic. Any movie can turn out bad; but the aformentioned "wells" have been far too often dipped into.

This trailer, and presumably the film has an incredible visual appeal hearkening back to the film of the era the story existed in. Time will tell if it really seems like an Indiana Jones film set in the skies with a bit of old sci-fi cliffhanger serials kicked for extra measure, but I prefer to remain optimistic. And what a cast; most of those folks are Miramax's puppets!

Now, back to the primary subject, the music. This seems like the kind of film that will get a score only release. God help us if they decide to put out a album inspired by the film entirely comprised of Phillip Glass remixes by Dr. Dre.

Just thought I'd mention that a clip from the film is now online, and the music sounds like the big-bombastic score we've all hoped for:

I love that one of the sunken ships is the Venture! Very cool to see Kong's cage burst on the back of the ship.
