According to Music from the Movies...Lisa Gerrard has been hired to score the film.

Cool, hope it's all vocals and good stuff like that

Well even if it was Goldsmith, it would have gotten rejected and replaced by Brian Tyler.

Ok, shutup about that. Wrong thread. I'm getting sick of all of that. It was no secret so get over it.

Allthough not obvious, still an interesting choice. I think Gerrard will create an interesting, good and above all "passionate" score.

    *sigh*

Lisa Gerrard it is. Good luck to her, this isn't your everyday assignment.

    Sounds like a good choice.

The only negative element as far as I can see is that we pretty much all can guess how this is going to sound. I can picture the scenes right now. Russell Crowe weeping in front of dead wife = Monica Bellucci weeping in front of dead son.

It seems to me this could be a great choice. Remember, her WHALE RIDER score got good buzz recently.

Reports are that the film was temped with Peter Gabriel's PASSION, so that suggests what the filmmakers have in mind for the score. Gerrard sounds like a good match.

In any case, I doubt the grand historical style of Miklos Rozsa or Alfred Newman (or their recent imitators) would fit the kind of film Gibson has made.

Now for the big question: who's going to distribute this thing? The studios aren't exactly climbing over each other to release a "controversial" film on the death of Christ.

Gerrard's Whale Rider score was lovely, but it was more atmosphere than melody. As far as predicting how it will sound, I wouldn't place any bets. I expected Whale Rider to feature the trademark Gerrard weeping vocals, but they appeared only briefly--and were very quiet at that. I do expect Gerrard to take an intimate approach to the material, but I also hope that she finds a good theme for it.

"Good freaking grief, you melody-loving Goldsmith fans. Just because it isn't Goldsmith, you don't think she can write a melody? Huh? P.S. Brian Tyler, Brian Tyler, Brian Tyler!"

Gerrard does her best work when she collaborates, whether the collaborator is Hans Zimmer or Pieter Bourke. I reviewed her solo effort Whale Rider on this site, and I haven't listened to it since.

I think Phillip Glass should score the movie!

FSM's boards report that Patrick Cassidy, the classically-trained composer behind the grand opera scene in Hannibal, will be collaborating with Gerrard. "They're also doing the music for Constantine together," FSM reports.

Look for Lisa Gerard and Patrick Cassidy's new cd "Immortal Memory" to be out in January. They should prove to be an impressive duo.

That is excellent news. Cassidy's aria on Hannibal was a great advertisement for his talents as a serious composer.

Newmarket picked it up a few weeks ago. They're aiming for February 25.
