I've been wanting to share this with all of you for quite some time... and now I can.

Michael has been officially signed as the composer of PIXAR's next animated feature, The Incredibles, directed by Brad Bird (Iron Giant). The film is set to be released November 5th, 2004.

C'mon...you didn't really think Barry would actually get to the scoring part of this film did you?

Over at the John Barry Yahoo Group they've been waiting to see if he'd actually get to the scoring stage or not. Looks like it's not. Reports there have been that he was let go, but I hadn't heard about who would replace him.

I'm glad they are going with Giacchino, as I think he has the talent to do a great job on the film.

I'm still perplexed as to why they didn't use Newman. His score complemented the Pixar films really well.

    Ditto.

I'm really curious as to what Pixar was expecting from him. Haven't they heard any of his scores from the past 10 years?

The sad part in all of this is that I wanted Michael Kamen to write it, given his score to Iron Giant..

I'm looking forward to this! This will be Giacchino's first major film, correct? (and you don't get more major than the new Pixar film!)

I was also looking forward to a new jazzy Barry score, but I think deep down we all knew it wasn't going to work out.

That's their problem, because Barry hasn't composed music like that for many years. Now Giacchino is probably going to be forced to rip off "1960s John Barry."

Of course, this is all speculation on my part, and Pixar may allow Giacchino to write something very original. I highly doubt that if these rumors are correct.

I guess there will be no more Barry scores then, after all.

That's a question for Jeremy, not me. I hear he has some big things on the horizon, but I suppose only time will tell. In the meantime, it's great to see Michael making some headway. I'm sure he'll do a great job with The Incredibles!

I said it here and over at FSM over a year ago when he was announced to score this film that Barry would be let go off this project; he could NEVER score an animated film, not with his current style of scoring(Ala Somewhere in Time). That's not an insult, just a fact.
