Interesting interview with Portman at boxofficemojo.com (of all places). Too bad there is no score release planned to my knowledge yet for Mona Lisa Smile.

Thanks MarkA for that link. I find it interesting that:

    1. She cites creative differences for her replacement with George Fenton on Dangerous Beauty (aka A Destiny of Her Own aka The Honest Courtesan aka Antisympathicatus) and not pregnancy, as is generally believed in film score circles. That remark about the producers/director hoping that the score would patch up the film is particularly interesting. Ultimately, Fenton's superb score was one of the few good things about the movie.

    2. Interesting to learn why her successful collaboration with Lasse Hallestom did not continue beyond Chocolat.

    3. Interesting to hear her remarks on The Human Stain and Mona Lisa Smile. As you do, I hope the 'big melody' of the latter finds a release soon.

    4. Her dominant mode of working with keyboard and piano in composition explains the pianocentrism of her scores (which I for one love).

    5. Does anyone know what this Wayne Wang film Because of Winn Dixie is about? Is there any hope for Wang, or does the decline and fall that began with Anywhere but Here continue?

    6. Identifies the pivotal moment in her Human Stain score, which I still haven't heard yet.

Looks like Mona Lisa Smile has a release after all - set for Dec. 19.

Yes however this is reportedly a compilation album with very few score tracks, maybe only one.

Well why Rachel Portman didn't score "The Shipping News," you have to admit that Christopher Young wrote one of his best scores for that film. It was a shame he didn't get an Oscar nomination for his work.

Still haven't heard Young's score outside my one viewing of the film, Mr Bond, but your recommendation will hasten the day when I do.
