The news on Trevor Jones as composer on Around the World in 80 Days is good. It should give him an excuse to indulge in an epic flourish or two.As for Horner on The Missing - mmm, interesting. Chairs eh? In all honesty I don't remember him using that one before.

What I find most disappointing is the reported underrepresentation of score on the Cold Mountain CD from Sony. What are the chances of a a separate score CD ?

Agreed. This happened with Talented Mr Ripley, City of Angels and Message in a Bottle (though the latter eventually got an extended release) - why does a guaranteed seller like Yared composing for Anthony Minghella get this slip-slod treatment?

Because shrinks have enough work already. If a score like Pirates of the Caribbean made some crazies cry, imagine what a beautiful Yared score can do to some emotional weaklings.
Then Sony Music gets sued for producing an emotionally distressing album which leads unsuspecting consumers to unexplained bursts of tears causing humiliation in front of friends ("You cried because of the movie's underscore? That is like sooo weird!"), as well as irrational obsessive Japanese-style adolescent behaviour on amazon.com ("OMG! THIS IS BEST SCORE EVER! I CRY ALL THE TIME! BUY IT! IN LIKE THREE COPIES!").

Horner and Yared both have great, highly memorable, emotional, touching, romantic themes... So how are they so different that one makes you wet, the other gives you a headache?
(other than the absence of blatant Prokofiev quotations in Yared's scores)posted 10-27-2003 04:09 PM PT (US)
