Timeline will definitely be picked up. I'm impressed with Tyler. Hope to hear more of his work and more often

I think im the only one who thinks Tyler is over rated. I mean, he is a really talented composer but i cant seem to get into any of his work. After watching the Hunted I wasnt impressed at all with the film or the score, both felt rushed and "thin". Of course, im probably still a little mad that Goldsmith's score got rejected for timeline, even still I suppose I will give Tylers score a listen since im a big fan of the book.

Sounds like the problem is with you!

TIMELINE is the best, action-adventure score of the year.

Just listen to the "Main Titles" of FRALITY. "Overhead" from DARKNESS FALLS. I'd heard little to nothing of Tyler's music at the turn of the year, and those snippets (from Cinemusic - thanks, Ryan!) were enough to make me into a fan. I can't wait to get the full CDs.

You're not. But until Tylermania passes a little and everyone who goes ga-ga over average underscore droning calms down, lay low and do not attract the wrath of Tylerfreaks.

I've had the privilege to hear TIMELINE and let me tell you, it's a grand, traditional orchestral score -- something we just haven't had this year.

Whereas some of the better work in 2003 has incorporated contemporary rythms, i.e., THE MATRIX RELOADED and S.W.A.T. (TIMELINE does this to a degree), I can assure you that there is no bigger, bolder or more rollicking action score than TIMELINE, which bristles with pure orchestral and live (this is important) percussive brutality.

This is a score where the composer really wrote their heart out. Imagine a score on the scale of CHILDREN OF DUNE with the intensity of "Disordered Patterns" and "Asymmetric Rythms" from THE HUNTED and you have TIMELINE. Toss in an appropriately epic love theme and you have a winner. About the only thing this score does not have is a pale-Orff-like chorus making things pretentious!

Will someone remind me if that's a good thing or a bad one?

No. Actually, I don't understand what all the fuss is about when it comes to about 75% of today's film music composers.

Actually, I just saw BUBBA HO TEP and was surprised when the end credits rolled and Tyler's name was listed as composer.

Granted, there's only about 2 or 3 basic themes/pieces of music that seem to be played or only slightly altered over and over again. But they're very nice. Quietly powerful and surprisingly moving, despite the fact that the tone of the movie is generally just to the left of camp.

In fact, it may be my fave thing he's done thus far, save THE HUNTED score, which I thought was quite good. Be interested to hear TIMELINE, tho...

I'm really looking forward to both the movie and score to BUBBA HO-TEP, I really liked the original Lansdale short story, and the movie looks like a very good adaptation. Unfortunately I don't think it's going to be playing at a theater near me any time soon...

Oh, and there's a bit of Tyler's TIMELINE score at the official movie site: www.timelinemovie.com

Sounds alright, not exactly what Ryan was describing in another thread, but hey, I'm willing to listen to it in the film and on disc. Here's to holding out and hoping it's good!

The first cue heard in the Flash intro is Brian's, it's from the portion of the score that reflects the present, modern main characters ("Transcription Errors").

The second part of the Flash intro is not from Brian's score, but the same music used in the TIMELINE trailer (no idea what the piece is called).

Once the the main Flash menu page loads, there's more of Brian's music, the cue "----". Click on the "Multimedia" section and a new music cue will load, "The Battle Of La Roque".

Hey Ryan, are there any cues that have instrumentation appropriate to the era? Or is it pretty much all straight-forward Brian Tyler action/adventure ala Children of Dune, without the ethnic influences?

Ya don't really get a good idea from the music on the site.

I haven't heard the entire score (as in every minute of music and any incidental cues if there are some), but from what I have heard, and what will be on the album, there are no "period" cues, a la the stuff you might hear in Joseph LoDuca's ARMY OF DARKNESS album. There are minor period touches in the orchestrations when appropriate, however.

Thank God too, because those types of string-and-flute cues are so not cool to listen to in the car!

Very cool! I'm glad to hear the orchestrations reflect the period when appropriate.
