Just wanted to let anyone interested know that the official sites for both Secret Weapons Over Normandy, and Medal of Honor: Rising Sun now have audio clips up. The Secret Weapons site has almost twenty minutes of Giacchino's score in their download section, and it all sounds great!

    Secret Weapons Over Normandy: http://www.lucasarts.com/products/normandy/

The Rising Sun site is playing what I assume is Lennertz's main theme, as well as a pretty cool, though short, action cue. It looks like Lennertz has done a good job of keeping up the standard of excellence in the MOH scores, and I think I even heard a little nod to Giacchino's original theme in there.

Medal of Honor: Rising Sun: http://www.eagames.com/official/moh/risingsun/en/timeline.jsp

I hope both these scores are still getting soundtrack Cds.

    Secret Weapons sounds great!

Is there any way to actually download these tracks to your HD though?

Not that I know of, but with any luck they'll be releasing a soundtrack cd soon.

According to both Lennertz and Giacchino there will be soundtracks released for both of these scores. Also, be on the look out for a score album of Giacchino's Call of Duty.

Call of Duty is the most mature writing I've heard from Giacchino so far.

The Lennertz selection sound fantastic! Will these be regular releases, or will you have to buy the game to get the soundtrack?

Hopefully they'll be regular releases. I already pre-ordered Call of Duty to be sure I got the soundtrack, and I don't think I could afford to do it twice more.

But will it be a "real" CD, or one of those CD-Rom soundtracks, with MP3s, that you have to listen to on your computer....? (I've been faked-out a couple times in the past...)

In case you cannot get enough of Call of Duty and the others you mentioned.

9 times out of 10 the music CAN be ripped from the game, despite what you will hear from people who say it is secured or encrypted.

Yeah, but it's in mp3. Passable quality, but not enough for soundtrack lovers I'm sure. Besides, the soundtrack comes free when you preorder the game.

Yup Steve - when the CD comes out, you'll get to pay the standard price of a soundtrack album, rather than the $49.99 you'd have to pay in order to have it early. That's some relief if I've ever seen it.

    Bugging me still:

Music4Games says "Call of Duty" soundtrack only released with game...(Again, I see this as giving the CD to someone who doesn't care all that much about the music.)

Where will you be able to get this CD?

"Medal of Honor: Rising Sun" - And this one? (Why is tracking down MOH scores such a pain...?)

Supposedly if you "pre-ordered" either of these games, you'd get the soundtrack....but there's no mention of that on the EA side. Yes? No?

Go to any EBGames store or Electronics Boutique nearby you, Lancelot. But you get the soundtrack when you buy the game. They don't sell the soundtrack seperately. EBGames does carry games on any platform, not to mention used games and DVDs. Maybe if you buy something else, they might give you the soundtrack. Each storefront only has a limited supply of the soundtracks and the employees I talked to said they weren't expecting to get anymore in after they go.

Yes, Call of Duty is only available with the game right now. It is lame of a release.

Rising Sun has no score release at the moment, won't for a bit, but if you can't wait, try and track down the promo.

    Joe

What do you mean it is "lame of a release"? I don't understand. Is there a tracklist for the Call of Duty disc given away with the game? I have seen it referred to as a "sampler" somewhere... just how long is it? Will the later regular release be identical, or longer?

    This is really frustrating!

The Call Of Duty disc comes in a cardboard sleeve and there is a track listing on the back. There is 39 minutes and change worth of music on the disc and it is great, ferocious music. I haven't played the single player game yet but I'm sure this disc is called the soundtrack sampler because it doesn't have all the music. Since the music was performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony, it probably would have cost a fortune to release the complete score. The game is great and seems to run a lot smoother than Medal Of Honor.

Actually, that is pretty much all the music written for the game.

There are only small portions missing from the sampler. Nothing worth while to want.

The cd is 39 min 6 sec. 13 tracks.

    1. CALL OF DUTY (4:58)
    2.PATHFINDER (3:09)
    3. COUNTRYSIDE DRIVE (4:05)
    4. APPROACHING THE TIRPITZ (2:41)
    5. BELOW DECK (1:47)
    6. STUKA'S AND FLAKVIERLING'S (3:11)
    7. EDER DAM (3:24)
    8. TAKING STALINGRAD (3:52)
    9 BREAKING THROUGH (2:01)
    10. RED SQUARE (1:38)
    11. SEWERS UNDER STALINGRAD (1:53)
    12. TANKS A LOT (3:25)
    13. PEGASUS BRIDGE (2:51)

CALL OF DUTY is a wonderful score...very dark in style. However, SWON is the better of the two. I'm not writing that because La La Land is releasing the SWON cd early next month. I write this because, as a fan, I feel that SWON has much more going for it. It's much more grand in scope. It's very epic sounding with wonderful themes. When the choir kicks in it takes the score to an entirely new level. It's by far the best score I have heard all year. Both SWON and Medal of Honor: Rising Sun are the two best scores of 2003, and neither of them were written for films.

Hopefully MOH will get an official release early next year. We are currently looking into it, but the AFM costs might be too much for us at this time.

Just in case you were wondering I believe the 2 cd set of SWON clocks in at 85+ minutes. The cdrom material on disc two is fascinating and gives you a great insight on the scoring process and how Mr Giacchino's talents are put to good use. Retail price will be $16.98 for the 2 disc set and will be available early December.

Allied Assault never had a CD released.

Any music you have of that was taken from the games source. There wasn't much new material for Allied Assault.

There was a "Soundtrack" advertised to be contained with the Allied Assault deluxe edition.

    HOWEVER....

The "soundtrack" is not a playable CD. The disc itself is a CD-Rom, which brings up a little window in which it played selections that you chose from a compilation of the other three MOH soundtracks plus two or three cuts from Allied Assault.

Still, you had to BUY THE $50 DELUXE EDITION, and OPEN THE BOX to discover this. Upon doing so, you negate your ability to RETURN THE ITEM when you find that it's a TOTAL RIPOFF.

I hate using the phrase RIPOFF, but in this case, TOTAL RIPOFF.

Very unhappy, and $50 in the hole. Anybody want a copy of "Allied Assault"...?

I believe this is all the music Giacchino wrote for Allied Assaut:

    Main Theme 4:03
    North Africa 3:19
    Sniper Town 3:19
    Stealing the Tiger 3:22
    V2's at Remagen 3:37

It's a shame he didn't get an opportunity to do a full score for the game, but the small amount he did get to write is top shelf stuff. The main theme is excellent, somewhat similar to the work he did on Semper Fi, with a couple of snippets of the theme from the first game thrown in for good measure. I think the best track written for Allied Assault has to be Stealing the Tiger. Giacchino really knows how to write a tank cue, and this might be the best one he's ever done.

I have no idea why the Call of Duty Sountrack says "sampler" on it, but I was one of the people that shelled out fifty bucks on the game to make sure I got it, and though I would have preferred it coming in an actual jewel case rather than a cardboard sleeve, that doesn't affect the quality of the music, which is excellent in its own right, but when you hear it in the game, it is outstanding! The best part of both game and score is in the Russian campaign (tracks 8-12 on the CD), starting at Stalingrad, where Giacchino slowly builds a very ominous cue up into a full statment of the Russian theme. Red Square is the grandest statement of the Russian theme, coming in as the poorly armed Russians charge an army of German machine-gunners to take back Red Square. And when the Call of Duty main theme starts playing over the final charge into Berlin, it's quite possibly the best use of music I've ever seen in a video game. Even though it only took me two days to beat the game, I definitely think it was worth the $50 for both game and soundtrack.
