That's right. My internet service provider reviews a Delerue disc.
My ISP is trying to get me off 'regular DSL' and onto 'High Speed DSL'. So, with their newest offer, they sent me a useless "educational" magazine full of crap praising the merits of high speed and how I can get access to loads of services much faster if I switch to high speed internet access. Whatever.
But...
On page 32 there are four CD reviews. Some local francophone pop act, some jazz act, some reggae remix and... CHOUANS! by Georges Delerue.
Who would have thought that? When they could have reviewed anything from Beyoncé, to Bob Dylan, one of the four discs they chose happens to be a Georges Delerue film score. Here's a quick translation of Yan Barcelo's review:
The summer has not been very rich in symphonic film music. By chance, I found the CD of the movie Chouans!, directed by Philipp de Broca in 1988. The movie's soundtrack, penned by Georges Delerue, was recently reissued and available in record stores like Archambault {local CD shop}This is one of the best adventure movies which I have yet seen, and the music of Delerue does much for the movie. Beethoven expresses strength better than anyone, and Debussy describes the world; Delerue however has the gift to express the caress which is simultaneously warm, tender, human and animal. This was the case with his classic Day of the Dolphin, and it is the case with Chouans! Of course, there are many more emotional aspects to this disc, mostly in baroque style, and the CD is a pleasure to listen to from beginning to end. But Delerue's music offers tenderness which can melt the coldest of hearts. So it's not a very insightful review. It's not the content that matters. It's the fact that it found its way into the type of promotional publication which never has anything of interest.
