Nice to see more Rota fans out there.

I myself claim to be a Rota fan, though I bow my head in shame at the small amount of Rota music I have either heard or bought.

Are you excited about Pavarotti singing a Rota piece on his new album?

It's nice to see someone mention the great Rota for once. People are mostly so obsessed with the american composers on this board. He has a unique style, and has a great gift for melody. I only have about 10 scores of him so far, but plan to get more. My favorite by him is "Il gattopardo" which really is a masterpiece.

I would guess it to be the same, as the title is the same.

Regarding the latest Chandos disc, it's a 50-50.
    The 50% good part:
The Symphony on a Love Song is splendid. The music is ravishing, the playing superb, and the sound about as good as it gets. The themes are I think better developed than in the later film score adaptations, and it's a much more coherent listen.

    The 50% bad part:
On the other hand, I find that the La Strada piece is badly screwed up by weird conducting, weaker than average playing and inconsistent sonics (especially when directly compared to Muti or Nezet-Seguin who do it so much better).

    Dwayne,

Hello! I'm very glad you found your way onto these boards. I lost your e-mail address and AOL deleted all of the e-mails you had previously sent me, so I haven't been able to e-mail you for the past few weeks, and I've been hoping you were either going to post here or FSM. I'm very sorry, but this has been a problem with AOL, they unfortunately keep deleting my e-mails, and sometimes I forget to write down the e-mail addresses of those I correspond with. I know we both have a lot to say so please send me a short e-mail and I'll fire a lenghy one back soon! Take good care.

    Best Regards,
    Dylan

PS- I'm not an expert on sound, but is "Juliet of the Spirits" really mono? It sounds stereo to me. "The Leopard" I'm fairly certain is mono, but I think "Juliet" is stereo. Which release of "Juliet" do you have? The Japanese CD is mono, but the CAM CD released in 2001 claims to be Dolby Stereo and, well, it is (I listen to the 5th track almost every single day). Once again, take good care.

And here are my top 5 favorite Nino Rota scores:

    1. Il Casanova
    2. 8 1/2
    3. Juliet of the Spirits
    4. The Leopard
    5. The Godfather Part II

Honestly, never does a day pass by without me listening to at least one Rota cue, and usually I listen to at least 5 or 10. It is addictive, and I never get tired of his music.
