Vic Mizzy's New Recording is `Kooky and Altogether Ooky'

Writer of `The Addams Family' and `Green Acres' TV Themes Issues First Solo CD

LOS ANGELES--Sept. 11, 2003--A lot of folks may not realize it, but melodies written by Vic Mizzy have been on the lips of music fans since the early 1940s. Singers such as Dean Martin, Doris Day, Perry Como and Billie Holiday have all crooned his tunes, though his most memorable melodies are certainly the famed themes to "The Addams Family" and "Green Acres."

Both of these well-known cuts are included on SONGS FOR THE JOGGING CROWD, the renowned player's first solo CD, presently set for release on October 14 on The Vicster Records. The recording also features ten entirely new songs, written and performed by the celebrated composer, including "Name Dropping," which inventively lampoons the Hollywood 'in crowd,' and the bittersweet yet beautiful "When Your Dreams are Younger Than You."

"The business has changed so much over the years that a lot of good songwriters can't get anything recorded, because 95 percent of the songs now are done by guys who write their own stuff," laments Mizzy. "Somebody said that my voice has natural distortion, and I can sing just as good as they can, so I figured that I might as well get in the studio and record my own material."

Although SONGS FROM THE JOGGING CROWD represents his debut non-soundtrack collection, Mizzy's output is assuredly familiar to aficionados of television, film and pop radio. His themes have graced more than a dozen movies, including the classic Don Knotts comedies "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" and "The Shakiest Gun in the West," along with such TV shows as "Mister Ed," "Petticoat Junction" and, of course, "The Addams Family" and "Green Acres." In addition to his illustrious musical accomplishments, Mizzy also serves as vice president of The Songwriters Guild of America, working behind-the-scenes to guarantee the rights of musicians and composers throughout the United States.
