    POLTERGEIST II: The Deluxe Edition
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Music Composed and Conducted by Jerry Goldsmith

They’re Back! The ghastly ghosts and original cast (Jobeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, Heather O’Rourke), the goosebump humor and bone-chilling special effects.

The Freeling family has settled into a new home, following the annihilation of their Cuesta Verde residence by terrifying visitors from the netherworld. But the spirits of the dead are still determined to get at the Freeling’s clairvoyant daughter Carol Anne. Unable to reach her this time through the family television, they make contact with her through her toy phone. Enter Kane, a demon in the disguise of a preacher. Played with extraordinary hypnotic malevolence by the late avant-garde theatrical luminary Julian Beck. Kane tries to cajole Carol Anne to “the other side.” When his cunning fails, he unleashes the hellish fury of the Poltergeist on the Freelings. They turn for help to a mysterious medicine man (Will Sampson as Taylor), a medium (Zelda Rubinstein as Tangena), and most of all, to each other.

Jerry Goldsmith’s score for the original POLTERGEIST (1982) was a masterpiece on the level of his own Academy Award-winning score for THE OMEN (1976). Revisiting and expanding upon his themes from the first score, Goldsmith adds a tremendous amount of new material. His score for POLTERGEIST II is an epic work for choir and orchestra.

As a special Halloween treat for horror fans, MGM has released POLTERGEIST II on a brand new DVD edition.

Alright! One of my Goldsmith favorites. Reaching Out is one of Goldsmith's most magical and powerful mind-boggling climactic pieces. But wasn't practically all the music on the Intrada version?

This is good news. The deluxe edition should be more complete and remastered than the previous version as issued on Intrada. I dont know the full details but Intrada had previously released this twice. The 2nd version was expanded when they realized that the first time they had actually overpaid the re-use fees..can anyone further elaborate? And was the 2nd intrada version complete to start with?

P.S this cd release is to coincide with Poltergiest 2 DVD. Here's hoping that we will get a regular Deluxe 2cd of ALIEN come
the subsequent re-issue of the ALIEN Quadrolgy DVD set in late October

This is *fantastic* news - I just received this DVD and absolutely loved revisiting the film. For the score, Goldsmith works in his theme for Carol Anne but adds the ghoulish 'God is in His holy temple' theme to the mix. After the film, I was thinking 'I must see whether this score is available'...

This is good news for anyone who missed the limited Intrada release (they still have copies, I thought), but I am fine with that specific album. It's 50 minutes and has all the best cues, in my opinion. This was when Goldsmith was REALLY into electronics, that 1983-1990 period (starting with UNDER FIRE, through LINK, EXTREME PREJUDICE, etc), before he backed off starting with RUSSIA HOUSE. If you are not fond of those scores, this will really grate on your nerves. I enjoy most of it, still prefer the original, though. You have to love Goldsmith taking that church hymnal and twisting it into such an evil ditty.

    YABBA DABBA DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, this is the best news! I've wanted this score since I saw the movie. Do I have to say how disappointed I was that none of that great choral chant was on the original release? The theme is there, but not the actual singing.

    I'm gonna hyperventilate...all better.

Thanks, Steve, for the heads up...

I own the 5 track, 30 minute version, and this is probably one of the least played Goldsmith albums in my collection. I keep hearing that the longer version is so much better, so I'll probably give this new album a shot.

Yay! I've only got the 30 min album on tape, so am now very much looking forward to this. I really like the score a whole lot, but that first release doesn't do it justice (& the expanded one is too hard/expensive to get hold of).

This is a standard release DE (like the Omens) & not one of the limited club releases, isn't it?

Tracklisting's up at Varese's site, and it looks like the Varese disc is going to have about seven more minutes than the Intrada Limited cd, and some creepy cover art to boot!

    2. The Gift (1:58)
    3. Where Are You? (2:10)
    4. Late Call (3:28)
    5. They're Back (3:39)
    6. The Butterflies (0:51)
    7. Dental Problems (2:19)

Nice of Varese to add some more music....but rename Dental Problems and Vomit Creature? How could they mess up the titles like that??

Apparently, the cue "The Visitor" is what's new on the Varese album.
