Just a note to let MV fans know that Cinemusic.net has 4 clips from PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN by Klaus Badelt, et. al, available for listening pleasure, or pain, depending on what you think of the score!

Ryan, I'm sorry, but it appears you've just encoded different parts from "Hummel Gets the Rockets" (The Rock) and labeled them as Pirates of the Caribbean music...

Haven't heard that joke for at least two weeks. I wonder who gets more repetative around here?

I'll admit to liking those truck jingles.

But I think the last one does sound like Hummel's Rocket Quest or whatever.

Ryan, do say more about the 7 composers. Are they individually listed per track, or is it just a general blurp "additional music by ..." ?
And who are the 7 clones anyway?

    Cough, cough...

I heard the most wonderful things about Silvestri's score ... and how they made sure this 6 different composer mesh did not sound like it.....

"And a-one and a-two and a...." If this were set on top of Apu's Qwik-E-Mart, we'd have a Simpson's episode...

The CD is in stores in a week, patience people!

Dinko, you can take a look at the list of 8 composers and 9 orchestrators for PIRATES in my review of the album:

Sheesh, I like this type of music, but this is ridiculous.
8 composers + 9 orchestrators + 3 engineers (who I assume are only the principal engineers, not the scoring stage personel)? Whatever happened to the 5 conductors?

And all they produced were truck jingles and unison chord banging? I'm amazed. We might just have reached a new low in terms of ['quality' of music] / [quantity of composers].

Oh well... At least it will bring back some nostalgic moments from the early 1990's when MediaVentures was all about fun in film scoring, before their 'mature' approach to film scores (Thin Red Line, etc.)

    Ryan, thanks for the review.

Good review. Wow, that some shameless stealing and plundering they did on Zimmer's scores. This would even make Horner blush. Have these guys no moral?
So Zimmer "produced" the score. I bet his name is only credited to make the score ripping somewhat legal. It's kind of ironic that they are all credited as Pirates. Very appropiate.

Hahahaha, the MV are amazing....Seven additional composers (what a surprise, Nick Glennie-Smith is back, making additionals again!!), nine orchestrators, three engineers and at the top, the maestro, Big Hans...and you don´t think it´s funny?
As for me, I can only say: Hail Zimmer!

Surprisingly, to some extent I enjoyed this score in the film, knowing full well that it was a blend of countless MV composers doing nearly a straight rip from other MV scores. The film is such an over-the-top piece of cheese that the inclusion of so many composers pounding away the usual simplistic MV fare actually seemed appropriate, as if this was Mediaventures' summer party. Nothing new is gained from the score, but nothing is lost either.

Having said this, I still have no intention of picking up the album. The score is perfectly at home in the film, but it's still not welcome in my CD player.

Now as for Silvestri's upcoming Tomb Raider 2 score--for some reason, its the only summer film score that I'm actually really looking forward to--so much so, that if there is a score album, I already predict myself buying it solely on my probably-way-too-great expectations. I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment, but I have hope... and that seems hard to come by in regards to film music recently.

Here in the U.K., we haven't had Prates of the Caribbean, as the movie doesn't open until August 8.
I'm looking forward to this film, along with T3. Can't think of any other Summer movies that I want to see this year.
As for the score, the clips I have heard seem to sound okay. I for one will be buying this latest production from MV

The score seems to be well-received by the 'populace', and we're bound to see more of these.

Movie reviews see the score more favourably: http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/entertainment/105774359492211.xml

    quote:

Special mentions are due costume designer Penny Rose, who makes everything from pirates' rags to snappy British uniforms look just right, and Klaus Badelt's pulse-pounding score. The music during the pirates' first transformation scene heightens the effect wonderfully.

Even the music thrills, with Klaus Badelt's booming score adding a punch of swashbuckle-y goodness. It's the sort of soundtrack that makes you want to immediately go out and buy the CD, then drive around in your car wearing an eye patch and pretending to be a pirate.

I was particularly impressed by Klaus Badelt's mock-heroic score which complements the many action scenes.

All of this is supported by an impressive musical score by Klaus Badelt. I kept thinking it sounded like Hans Zimmer’s work, then noticed that he was listed as one of the music producers. I guess that explains the similar sound.

I love that on the back cover of the CD, it says "Overproduced by Hans Zimmer". At least he's honest. Check it out!

    Today's headlines:

"The Mouse" tells all about the MV Empire with "The True Hollywood Story of Zimmer's Empire." Turn to the "Pirates" CD for the whole story

A week and patience my ass!

I just did the big Mtl record stores, and not one had anything with a title even resembling 'Pirates'. The closest alphabetical match was Piglet's Big Movie. Sure, I'd buy that.

I just keep convincing myself that record stores are only good for mainstream pop. For everything else, there's no point in waiting for it to arrive in a brick store: just order it online.
Now if only the tight ones at HMV Canada would bring back my favourite online store.

Oh well... CDPlus here I come.
