    Alright, here's the problem:

I'm a film student working out of Jacksonville Florida, and I'm working on a short film over the summer. I have a composer doing my music for me, and we just wrapped on production. He has already written the score and I've listened to it and it is amazing. So I'd like to pay him but I thought it'd be much more creative if I got him a film score instead. A score for a score. If you have any suggestions. To my knowledge he's fairly new to the genre. He does know and like John Williams though. So Any outstanding Williams work would be helpful... Something that is classic Williams.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks. You guys Rock!

You know getting him a Williams score can be risky. He might already have any particular score we can name. While there are quite a few, how will you know which scores have already got his fancy?

My suggestion is that you get a score from the man whose style Williams admired as a beginning composer: Erich Wolfgang Korngold.

Erich Wolfgang Korngold - The Warner Bros. Years
This is a real nifty two CD set with many samples of his work with long selections from Adventures of Robin Hood (Probably his best known work) and The Sea Hawk. (These are the original tracks so they may not be as sonically as pleasing as you might like)

Adventures of Robin Hood A re-recording of possibly the greatest adventure score of all time. A real winner and sonically easy on the ear.

Sea Hawk – Another re-recording of a classic film featuring much the same crea as Adventures of Robin Hood, right down to the same orchestra doing the honors.

I own all these CD’s and can tell you that as a fan of John Williams you can’t afford not to expose yourself to his inspiration.

Your composer's name wouldn't happen to be Aaron Collins, would it? If you're not sure about what he has, check out stuff he has from Williams already. Of course, this will be much harder to do, what with all of the references to John Williams crossed out in green crayon, replaced so it reads "music composed and conducted by Aaron Collins."

Why not those 2 Varese Sarabande 25th Anniverssary 4 CD sets?

Get him a Lauren Allen Davis score.

Sorry his name is not Aaron Collins and I was really leaning toward getting him a compilation Cd anyway. That way it covers a lot of material. Like I said, I'm not sure how extensive his collection is. I take it not very though

No joke, get him that 25th Anniversary Varese Sarabande compilation. Four CDs for the price of one. Or, order him the new one from the website.

Ah, by all means a Williams compilation CD is a great idea but make it a Great Cues By Williams compilation. Have a field day with the last few tracks of CE3K, Empire Of The Sun's Cadillac Of The Skies and a Superman pick 'em grab bag, for starters...and be sure to end with Saving Private Ryan's Hymn To The Fallen.
