This was mentioned briefly in the recent Upcoming scores thread, but I thought it deserved a headline of its own.David Newman has stepped in to compose the score for Dr Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, replacing Marc Shaiman as the score composer. Shaiman is still writing the songs though. The reason for the replacement is a scheduling conflict - Shaiman is busy with his Hairspray tour.
Another replacement story in other words, but (thankfully) without the "creative differences" twist...
All the best,

I guess we could look look at this from the optimistic angle -a) David Newman scoring a high-profile film
b) We still get to hear some new Shaiman songwriting, something I have been waiting for since South Park. (We don't have Hairspray here. I use styling gel.)

I spoke with Marc yesterday, and there is more then just scheduling conflicts at work here.Ryan

Newman replaces Shaiman... who replaced Newman. Originally Randy Newman was meant to score and write songs for this, but he bailed to be replaced by Shaiman.
