I love you guys! Whenever a company like FSM announces their new titles a lot of responses are complaints. I admit, some of the stuff FSM has put out doesn't appeal to me, but then again some of the stuff I have released doesn't scream BUY ME at the moment of release.

I would really like to know -- as a label owner -- what would be your dream releases.

I imagine this has been covered a billion times on a million other message boards (including this one), but I am curious to see what you, our customers, want.

    Oh, and a few rules:

    1. Nothing Paramount, Disney, or Universal. We all know how difficult it is to get anything out of them.

    2. If 2 minutes of music is missing from an already released score then don't list it.

    3. If one person mentions TIMELINE I will get Ford to come over to your house and read you bedtime stories for a month straight!

    4. Be logical and be reasonable (a very tough throught, I know).

    5. Limit to 10.

I would imagine a list like this will help companies like mine look into projects that are worthy of a release.

    Have fun!

    Dear LA LA:

Foremost, as a customer of yours, (and I will use caps, just to emphasize the depth of my intention) - THANK YOU!! I have two of your releases - MONTE WALSH/CROSSFIRE TRAIL and your reissue of Elmer Bernstein's ZULU DAWN. Eric Colvin was an unknown commodity to me, but Doug Fake's review of the disc, plus the fact that I like music from the western genre (and Aaron Copland's music) I took a chance and bought the disc from Craig Spaulding. I was not disappointed. Your better sounding ZD replaced my original Cerberus [?] release.

All of the niche boutiques releasing film scores are my personal heroes. I love and respect you guys, personal differences aside. Talk about realizing one's fantasies in a lifetime - it has been happening to me.

What would I like to see released? Do you want the long list or the short list?

    Here are a few:

Any of the scores done by Elmer Bernstein for David Wolper documentaries. D-DAY and THE MAKING OF THE PRESIDENT - 1960 would be initial requests. Elmer's score from CAPTAINS AND KINGS would also be most welcome. Furthermore, John Addison's massive score for CENTENNIAL. And if you want a real coup, why not try to get Elmer's rejected score for GANGS OF NEW YORK.

I know that some dreams do come true, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

    You are loved!

Whatever else you have to say about FSM, they are issuing the goods! New Delerue (although both had been on LP previously), Barry (the theme was available previously but not the whole original score), and especially Moross (Silva did a suite of this, but I'm not sure that counts). This, on top of new Tiomkin, White Buffalo, and the recent FSM Rozsa and Fielding CDs. I don't know how I'm going to keep up with it all, but that's secondary to its availability.

I agree, Lou. It's always best to not confuse form with substance. And the music being released has substance! As much as I like Jerry Fielding, I took a pass on DEMON SEED. Because of the genre, I was afraid it would be one of those scores I play once, or not even finish listening to, at all. Favourable arms length reviews may change my mind.

Tiomkin's BIG SKY is excellent! That one I have listened to frequently.

    - American Friends
    - Angela, Love Comes Quietly
    - Sword of Gideon
    - Aurora

    La La Land,

Here is one that I've been yearning to hear apart from the film for years that I would absolutely love a release of: "Ghost Warrior" by Richard Band, one of the most beautiful scores of the 1980's. Take care.

    Best Regards,
    Dylan

There's a good handful of Richard Band scores out there that need some attention. GHOST WARRIOR is definitely one of them. TROLL is wonderful, as is his short score to ZONE TROOPERS (12 minutes or so). Then there are two scores he co-composed with Shirley Walker -- DUNGEONMASTER and GHOULIES.

A definite master of the B-grade horror film. His stuff makes a great companion for reading horror novels.

Here is a follow-up. I have a huge wish list, but these seem to be the realistic ones:

-Unreleased Scores from the first season of The Outer Limits - Dominic Frontiere (I especially want "The Forms of Things Unknown," in my opinion Frontiere's finest work for the series) (I wonder if GNP Crescendo still has interest in releasing this material?)
    -The Aftermath- John Morgan
-Dolls- Fuzzbee Morse/ Victor Spiegel/ Richard Band (creepy, dream-like synth score with some wonderful music box music)
-The Innocents- Georges Auric/ Paul Dehn (this should be an FSM possibility; I wonder if the tracks survive?)

Richard Band's work is wonderful, indeed. I believe the score of his in most need of release at the moment though is "Ghost Warrior," it is one that I believe MOST film score fans would love, not just fans of Richard Band (though fans of Band will absolutely worship it, it is a truly beautiful work).

The twelve minues of "Zone Troopers" released on LP is most of the score, there is one cue Band composed that didn't make it onto the Varese album that sounds an awful lot like "Sing Sing Sing," and maybe there were a few other things that didn't make it as well.

Troll did have an LP release, but that is a popular score, many horror fans remember it. Dungeonmaster is a fine score, and Ghoulies is fun, manic, and at times very beautiful.

    Best Regards,
    Dylan

Demon Seed, although mostly electronic, is worth having IMHO.

As for La La Land, everyone has their favorites, but I don't see how you can go wrong following in FSM's footsteps and putting out Golden Age stuff. Why not contact Chris Neel here on the board. He works for MGM, he can tell you what they have, and he wants legit issues of these things instead of bootlegs.

But honestly, there's no end to the good stuff they must be sitting on if it's in good shape. Just forget about the films and go for major composers or scores that are good. Ride the High Country is a title people have talked about. The composer is no one, George Bassmann, but the score is excellent.

Okay, don't shoot- I don't know who owns what. Browsing the web from a relative's fabulously slow computer, I am back for about 30mins. All right. Here's my 10:

    1. A Few Days In Weasel Creek - Horner
    2. The Pursuit OF D.B. Cooper - Horner
    3. Something Wicked This Way Comes - Horner
    4. Something Wicked This Way Comes - Delerue!
    5. Batman: The Animated Series - Walker's work
    6. CHiPs - Silvestri
    7. MillenniuM - Mark Snow
    8. More The X-Files - Snow
    9. Jake Speed complete - So sue me, I liked it ;-)
    10. Timeline rejected. Just kidding. Ah ... A tie between Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier and Indiana Jones and the LAst Crusade.

    Here's an idea:

In honor of Katharine Hepburn, why not do a CD featuring 3 John Barry scores from Television films.

The Glass Meneagrie (It was only a short score done entirely on piano by Barry)

Love Among The Ruins (Another short score with really only one theme, but quite lovely and nominated for an Emmy. Music was edited by Len Engel and I bet the tapes are probably with all those Goldsmith things he had.)

The Corn Is Green (Another lovely score and probably the longest of the bunch if memory serves me. It's been a long time since I've seen this film.)

I believe The Glass Menegarie and Love Among The Ruins were produced by ABC Films. I know Fox has the rights to LATR. The Corn Is Green is a Warner Bros television film.
