    what scores?

Of course, the new Tyler stuff, Badelt“s Pirates, James Newton Howard“s return to the Western, Silvestri“s take on the game-girl, Howard Shore“s Return to the King, his King Kong score (although a bid far away still...),Elliot Goldenthal“s SWAT, so there is a lot in the coming months to be looking forward to once again. Good times for scorefans.

    Best Wishes

    Philipp

Which James Newton Howard western? If you mean "Open Range," that film is being scored by Michael Kamen.

I think Howard's score to the P.J. Hogan "Peter Pan" should be quite good. The film looks wonderful.

I wonder how much score Goldenthal will get in "S.W.A.T."? That is the type of film that is usually loaded with songs.

Duetto by Marcelo Alvarez and Salvatore Licitra.

The Piano Player by Maxim Mrvica (includes themes from Exodus).

Whatever William Ross or Trevor Rabin are scoring.

    Nothing else.

    Phil,

Thanks for the link. Had no idea he was scoring "Hildago." (It might have been nice if you had included the title of that film in your post rather than just being vague. Not everyone knows about these assignments by a genre description.)

Furthermore, "Hidalgo" takes place in Saudi Arabia. So it's an "Eastern," not a Western.

I am looking forward to Randy Newman's score for SEABISCUIT. This one is likely my most anticipated score of the summer.

I am also looking forward to the CD releases of SAE's A SUMMER PLACE and BATTLE CRY, both by Max Steiner, later this summer.

I know that Ryan K's going to be all over me for this blasphemy, but really...after hearing Men In Black II, I really don't want Elfman scoring another sequel. He needs to write another sweeping score like Sommersby (or the theme from Sleepy Hollow), just to show me (not that he has to prove something to me directly) that he can still do it. Since Good Will Hunting, it's almost all the same instrumentation (save the female orgasms in Hulk, but the ), the same plodding "themes" (especially the "love" themes, which are as bland as anything Williams wrote for The Phantom Menace's talky scenes...you know, the whole movie).

OK, it's late. And I'm drunk. Not really.

    Shaun

P.S. Looking forward to hearing Goldsmith NOT use "U.S. Marshals" and hearing Brian Tyler, Michael Giacchino, and Thomas Newman do anything.

I have Tan Dun's HERO. Violin solos are by Itzhak Perlman and Tan Dun. Includes KODO Drummers of Japan. Complements his approach on CROUCHING TIGER. Great score!

Thanks Bob. I found CTHD a bit of a grower when it came out - it really took me a long time to get into it. In fact, I'm rather ashamed to admit this, but I wanted Zimmer to win the Oscar that year for Gladiator... oh well, sometimes the Academy does get it right...

Umm...Howard SHORE is composing the music to Shyamalan's The Woods??? Not James Newton?

Brian Tyler is continuing to amaze me to the Nth degree...I am excited to hear what his 100+ piece orchestra can do with Timeline.

Sorry, I meant James Newton Howard as composer for The Woods, not Howard Shore. I assume for the moment that that particular composer-director partnership will remain intact.
