German born composer Hans Zimmer will be one of the few composers who will get a star on the Hollywood walk of fame next year, Yahoo reports. Congrats, Hans!

np: concerto for violin and orchestra (paul hindemith, london symphony orchestra, david oistrach, violin)

    Let's see...

    - Copy style of Harold Faltermeyer & German 1980's Synth Pop Club.

    - Produce 1 score and create variations of it.

    - Find cloning techonologies and produce countless clones with different names.

    - Rent clones to Hollywood studios.

    - Get "star".

Why didn't I figure it out before? I could have my own star!?

Now, will he get the whole star, or will he have to share the star with the rest of the MV clone-factory?

What a piece of shite news. What other composers have stars? Zimmer is one of those least deserving. Even Brian Tyler is more deserving now, based on his small catalogue of work, more than Zimmer's Big Book of Blandness.

I imagine Henry Mancini and John Williams have stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I'm not sure which other film composers do. Possibly Rozsa and Alfred Newman.

I think to get a star there, you have to be sponsored and judging from the way polls at FSM always favor Zimmer, et. al., those "fanboys" must have fronted the $15,000 to fund the star. (I think $15,000 is the amount it costs to get one. I seem to recall that number in regards to a star for Christopher Reeve a couple of years back.)

While I don't agree with Zimmer getting one over many more talented and deserving composers, like all things in this world, there isn't always justice. Hell...look at the Oscars to see how that works.

    Positive attitude:

    1) Buy intoxicating substance.
    2) Lock all doors.
    3) Internalize intoxicating substance.
    4) Dream about someone producing a good Nino Rota compilation with the Hallé Orchestra or the Philadelphia Orchestra.
hmmm... feels good. me wants more.

Gee Ryan...you can slag off on whomever you don't like but if we question the validity of Zimmer getting a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, we're bastards. Gimme a break.

Time to start a campaign to get him one then. If Zim's getting one, JW HAS to get one!

How can the most Oscar nominated living individual NOT have one?

Last night during the chat I considered taking a dump on his star, but then I decided that it would be a very expensive dump considering the air travel involved. Hanny just ain't worth that kinda money.

You know, considering how many movies Williams has scored for the man and how long they've known each other, wouldn't you figure old Stevie Speilberg would have sponsored JW getting a star?

    Filmcomposers with a star:

    Baxter, Les
    Bernstein, Elmer
    Bernstein, Leonard
    Ellington, Duke
    Faith, Percy
    Gould, Morton
    Green, John
    Jarre, Maurice
    Jones, Quincy
    Levant, Oscar
    Mancini, Henry
    Mc Kuen, Rod
    Melachrino, George
    Newman, Alfred
    Rose, David
    Schifrin, Lalo
    Stoloff, Morris
    Young, Victor

+ several songwriters, singers, conductors + bandleaders

Maostly the selections are more in the 'performer' than in the 'composer' field.

Recently Ray Harryhausen received a much deserved star on the walk. A fan was responsible for getting it done by petioning people like Lucas & Spielberg to make donations, which they both did. Those who contributed the most were Tom Hanks and Peter Jackson. I can't remember or find the link to the specific article that mentions it at this time.

If I recall correctly, all you have to do to get a star is be in the Biz and have enough money to pay for it. For starters, you have to put up $10,000 which disappears into the Hollywood Chamber of commerce, never to be seen again. It’s not like any of the sport’s Hall of Fame, there is no selection committee, it is administered by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce which is directed by Johnny Grant, the self styled “ Honorary Mayor of Hollywood”. Admission is based on “longevity in the entertainment business and impact of the career or person” Very subjective and interpreted by guess who? Johnny Grant.

You also have to be willing to appear at the unveiling of the star. (If you are dead, they probably relax this requirement. Although someone from the family is expected to show.) Although there are exceptions. The Beatles had a star installed without any members of the band being present. It lasted for five days. Capitol records called and said that they would like the star to be in front of their building and that they were sure they could get a member of the band to show up. There are still waiting.
