Hello everybody!Looking for the score for "Black Widow" (if ever was one - anyone could tell me???) I've realized that there are really a little number of Michaell Small soundtracks edited - and the majority of them are already out of print!
How could it be?
I'm not an expert on Michaell Small, but he has composed such a quiet, beautiful, thrilling, dark scores for movie mysteries as the above mentioned "Black widow", "Consenting adults" or the chilling "Klute", that I am quite surprise that any label didn't pay more attention!
Anyone can provide more information on the subject?
Regards!

Black Widow is a fantastic film, although I dont' remember the score much. As I DO recall, there was never a score release for this.Joe

You are so right. Michael Small is *the* most underrated film composer. His scores for The Parallax View, The Postman Always Rings Twice and Marathon Man - or his larger works for Jaws IV, Mountains of the Moon and Mobsters - are superb. A compilation album with themes and suites from his scores would be a very good album!

Thumbs up once more for the work of the very great Michael Small! At one point he seemed to be the king of the conspiracy thriller, and he did those scores so well. MARATHON MAN is absolutely electrifying. I love his dark, disturbing approach to the thriller genre. KLUTE is great, as is THE STEPFORD WIVES (both featuring themes which display a lightness of touch amongst the darkness), and I also love both THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (brooding, splendid chord progressions, not too far removed from Gil Mellé) and his western COMES A HORSEMAN.It's true, he isn't well represented on CD. I get the feeling he has a broad fan base however, and something like MARATHON MAN would be pretty sought after, I think.
Maybe James Phillips could chip in here. Hey James, weren't you planning on interviewing the man?

Mountains of the Moon: I have a grand total of one Michael Small score, but consider it to be an absolute 'must have'. For those into big, epic adventure scores, this is very good indeed!

Greetings Graham,Email me and I will tell you about Michael J. Lewis, Gil Melle, and Michael Small. Thanks for mentioning me. Did you vote in my Michael Small cd poll on the FSM Messageboard?
Small told me about an interview that Rudy Koppl did with him a couple years ago. I need to get a copy of it. I think it was in Music for the Movies. I have to check their website.
More, later on.

Rudy did a great piece on his career and also interviewed a number of the directors he worked for. The interview is not available on our web site, though. I'll see if I can find it in our archives and put it online for you.
