Watching the new Seabiscuit trailer yesterday reminded me how much I love sport-scores. Somehow these type of films always have a grand finale where the composer can let it rip with the orchestra.

(If I'm not mistaken this is one of the few film genres missing from John Williams' filmography).

    The one sin my collection:

    Rudy (Goldsmith)
    The Natural (Newman)
    Remember the Titans (Rabin)
A League of their Own (Zimmer)

Other I've heard and would like to get:
For the Love of the Game (Poledouris)
    Hoosiers (Goldsmith)

    Others?

p.s. I'm glad to see that Randy Newman's attached to this film. Maybe we can expect another gem on the lines of The Natural.

I don't have a copy of James Horner's Field of Dreams, but my recollection from the film is that it was very good.

If boxing is a sport, and let's face if there is you can argue that there are good sports movies in existence, then the following scores are excellent:

Ali (Lisa Gerrard, Pieter Bourke, Michael Mann, Martin Tillman, et al) - heavy on atmosphere.
Raging Bull (Scorsese picks the music - the intermezzo from Cavaleria Rusticana just wrecks me)
Snake Eyes (Sakamoto's Hermannesque score has a genuine intelligence of construction)

And while it's not a sports movie, there's a moment in Hearts in Atlantis when Ted Brodigan describes a football game in which a guy called 'Bronko Nagursky' creates a miracle. Danna scores that scene with one of his best themes to date.

    NP The Hours (Glass)

Lets not forget the most "athletic" composer of them all: Bill Conti. Four Rocky scores, and many others as well: "The Scout" (great theme), "8 Seconds" (nice piano theme), "Grand Slam" (pretty awful), and the "Karate Kid" films.

    And then we have:

    William Ross: "Tin Cup"
    Vangelis: "Chariots of Fire"
    Hans Zimmer: "Days of Thunder"
    John Debney: "Little Giants"
    David Newman: "The Mighty Ducks"

Stupid me for forgetting Chariots of Fire, the sports score to end all sports scores.

And I guess you could count "Run Forrest Run" from Forrest Gump.

And speaking of Bill Conti sports scores, there's also THE COOLANGATTA GOLD and VICTORY.

Of all those listed above not a one of em comes close for shear zest and inspiration as Bill Conti's original ROCKY.

This score single handedly sent gym membership around the world soaring

You left out ROOKIE OF THE YEAR (or is it called GRAND SLAM where you are?).

Also, David Newman's THE SANDLOT is a wonderfully diverse score.

It's not available, so it may not qualify here; but the score for MYSTERY, ALASKA is simply wonderful.

It has its moments, Mark. Worth seeking out... But man, Tin Cup - great score. Especially the climactic moments at the end for the U.S. Open/finale.

    Cool Runnings - Zimmer.

And if anyone else has seen the very first Michael Jordan VHS that was released called "Come Fly With Me," it had some awesome instrumentals that went along with the footage. Can't quite place the composer at the moment (my copy of the VHS was stolen awhile back).
