Hey everyone - just got done shooting a short project for my Cinematography course. It's a western, err... kind of! You'll see what I mean when you see it. I directed what was a fast and furious couple of days, but it sure was a lot of fun. Here are some pics from the shoot. I figured y'all might enjoy seeing me and my friends in action. The cowboy is my cousin, Thomas!

PS- Special thanks to Sheriff Joe for a cool story! In the end, I had to take some liberties with the script, but I don't think I compromised the integrity of it. I think it'll turn out really well.

LOL, Justin... she's taken! That was my actress, she flew in from Louisiana. I'm actually about to take her to the airport. It's kind of hard to understand how she might fit into a western... but you'll figure it out once you see it.

And Perfpitch, yup - Vasquez Rocks was a great location. There's no wonderin' why so many films have been shot there. In fact, the week prior to my shoot, Looney Tunes: Back in Action was finishing up.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, Brian.

Hey Jeron, dont forget to let us know the release date of the DVD!!
I suppose those photos from the shoot will be on the second disc with all the other extra features too will they?
Also, is Ennio Morricone free to do the score and if so, will it be isolated on the DVD?

Congrats Bud, hope it all works out!!

    Hadrian and Justin,

As you can see from the pix, the project was shot on 16mm film - so putting up clips would require the film to be developed, telecine'd, then digitized and (hopefully) compressed before being put online.

Ahh, I see. It had better be a damn good film if it wants to live up to the abnormally high hype surrounding it! Hey Jeron, why did you have to fly your actress in from Louisiana? Is there a shortage of aspiring female actresses in Hollywood?

Yep. I'm dropping it off to be developed tonight... trust me, I am very anxious to see how it turned out. This is my first foray into 16mm filmmaking, so who knows. I had a great crew and a very talented DP, so in theory it should be pretty darn cool. We'll see on Wednesday or Thursday... developed tonight, telecine'd tomorrow... 2-300 bucks later, I'll have the raw footage in my hands.

I just picked up a good book on Final Cut Pro. I only have experience with AVID, but I hear that FCP should be an easy transition. However, it doesn't help that I'm not a MAC guy. It is comforting to know I'll have several days to figure it all out and put it together. USC's Beginning Prod. Sequence wasn't so generous.

I'm putting together a 60-second version for the course assignment. 60 seconds isn't long, but it's what the prof has challenged us to do. Being a little more ambitious, I shot stuff that'll cover me for a 3-4 minute piece which I can use as (hopefully) a portfolio item.

And for those who are interested, while the 60-second version will feature a temp score (due to time constraints), the 3-4 minute version will have something original written for it by a very talented, up-and-coming composer.

Yeah PerfPitch, my friend Katie from Louisiana, was extremely enthused about being in the film - so much that she was willing to pay her own way out here. I agreed she was perfect for the part, so gave it all the go-ahead. Why go with someone you don't know and aren't sure you can rely on, when you've got friends who want to fly in to help you out? I doubt I could find anyone as reliable as that, even when I've got sixty-thousand choices sitting right under my nose.

It may come as a shock to some of you, but most people here at the boards don't eat, sleep and breathe movies like a few of you.

So, when we flip through Jeron's photos, '16mm' is the last thing to go through our head.

I've uploaded a streaming version of my new "Behind The Scenes" featurette, which will be on the DVD - in one form or another. This is a pretty basic edit, but I think it works really well.

You can watch it at: http://jeron.neptune.com

You've gotta have a password, so e-mail me ( jeron@sbcglobal.net ) if you are interested in seeing the video and I'll shoot the password over to ya.

This is a pretty high quality stream, so I wouldn't recommend you check it out unless you've got broadband internet access (DSL, Cable, or T1 and higher).

Also available is this test footage I originally shot w/ my cousin, which I edited together to get a feel for how some of the shots might fit together.
