    Folks,

Elliot Goldenthal has been hired to score S.W.A.T.!!! A rather unusual assignment for Elliot, don't you think! Can't wait to see what he'll do on this one.

And by the way, Marco Beltrami is back on board Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy!

I saw the trailer to this movie, and at one point the main characters were sitting at a table humming the old TV SWAT theme. Hope Elliot uses that theme at times in his underscore.

This will be great! I hope he can jazz and/or funk up the score, so it can be in the same vibe as the TV series, and as all 70's TV series!

Goldenthal scoring with 70's funk? The same guy best known for Alien3 and Final Fantasy? I mean, I'm sure he's capable of it (Titus, Butcher Boy, and Frida showed he can probably write in any style) but I don't think the movie is going to call for it. I don't think Goldenthal will use the theme from the TV show either. I would hope the makers hired him because they were familiar with his style (and not because of his oscar).

Goldenthal's done action before (Demolition Man, Sphere, and FF) but they've all been sci-fi. If it's going to be like anything he's written before, I'd say it will probably be like Heat: very urban and low key.

It's good to hear that he's working on another movie, and hence will probably have another soundtrack release. I wasn't a fan of Frida, and the Good Thief didn't stand out either. Goldenthal seems to write good music for commercial movies like this one, so here's hoping it's good!

I would've never thought of Elliot scoring a film like S.W.A.T. I was thinking more along the lines of someone from MV, or Mark Mancina or Trevor Rabin. This should prove to be interesting (if they keep him on).

I wonder if he will revisit his Heat score. That was a pretty interesting score for a cop and robber film.

This is absolutly wonderful news. Elliot deserves more and more scores of this caliber. I have been with his since "Alien 3" and I just picked up "Final Fantasy" the other day. All I can say is WOW! If Elliot sticks with the "Heat" motif he can create a new world in his music. In my opinion, "Heat" is his best score to date (don't care for "Frida") and he should have won (or been nominated).

Don't forget, Elliot did HEAT. He did some great music for that, and that was a police drama/action film.

Yeah, Heat is one of Elliot's finest and most underrated efforts. The reason it goes unnoticed is probably because of the poor album that divides up the score between songs and. The music is barely heard within the film itself as it is mixed very low. I'd recommend to anyone that has the album to make a cdr just of the score and maybe couple it with another short Goldenthal effort(In Dreams works well because of the guitars and a reused motif).

Can't wait for SWAT. I hope there are some depressing moments for Elliot to work his magic

Or get the expanded score which is 48:30, and just great.

There's an expanded score for Heat out there? I was always under the impression that the original album was complete.

Even the expanded is nowhere near complete. I went through the film a cue at a time to title the extra cues, and there was a lot still missing.
