So what's the story of that "Niaiserie" cue?
Davis sure has a good voice...

I apprieciate the cues also. And wish they were on the soundtrack, they cheated us with that wasted space of videos that you can already download on the internet for free. Any chance of posting more? :-)

As indicated in the MP3 ID3 tag, the song is sung by Kerry Walsh. It's a source song Don wrote for the scene where Neo, Morpheus and Trinity meet Merovingian. You'll hear it in the background.

Uh, well, remember - you get 37 minutes of Don Davis material, which is still more than the Varese release for the first film.... Don doesn't think people should feel cheated.

Ok, maybe cheated was the wrong word to use, becuase that soundtrack was a bit of a bargin. But I think you once hinted that, this soundtrack doesn't even represent the true nature of Davis' score, and the clips you posted sounded more like the "Matrix" type music that I was looking for instead of the techno stuff.

Was it Don Davis who decided that 37 min was enough, or was there something else?

I'm not sure how much involvement Don had on the soundtrack release, beyond the suite. (He didn't even get to have a "thank you" section!)

I have a feeling the 37 min. was determined by Maverick Records.

    Dan,

Thank you and thank Don for providing some great music from the film we would not ave otherwise heard (unless there is gonna be a definitive expanded/complete release in a couple years). It is appreciated.

If Don actually wants people to hear his music, then now might be a good time for him to start talking with powers that be about an iso score on the dvd, maybe with the alternate cues even. Kinda like Alien.

Perhaps we can hope for expanded score releases after the third movie is released? Please? Can we?

A complete score for the first movie would be very nice, we do have the iso score of course, but that doesn't have the best sound quality and requires lots of volume corrections. Plus Davis said that he wrote score for all the scenes where songs were used, because they didn't know if they'd get the rights to use the songs...were these cues recorded?

At least one was (I think). If you take the end of "Anything is Possible" (which did show up in the end credits) and let it continue in the film as it does on the CD (i.e., replacing the Rage Against the Machine song), it fits in perfectly, and the final statement of the reflective brass motif is cued exactly by the moment that Neo dons his sunglasses.

Of course, just because it fits together perfectly doesn't necessarily mean that's what it was written for -- we would need official confirmation for that -- but it does seem highly likely.

In fact, last quarter at college I was taking a Multimedia Arts class, and one of the final projects was a presentation on some aspect of MMArts with a visual aid. I did mine on the functions of a film score, and to illustrate my speech I used scenes from The Matrix with the isolated score. At the end of the presentation, I showed that final scene twice: once in its original version, and once in a version I made myself in which I took out the RATM song and restored (if in fact it originally went there) the ending of "Anything is Possible." Much to my surprise and delight, everyone in the class agreed that Don's music worked much better for the scene than the song did.
