With the arrival of CAPTAIN BLOOD this morning, I'm wondering which of Charles Gerhardt's CDs I still have to get. The ones I currently have are:CAPTAIN BLOOD (Flynn scores)
THE SEA HAWK (Korngold scores)
CITIZEN KANE (Herrmann scores)
CASABLANCA (Bogart scores)
CAPTAIN FROM CASTILLE (Newman scores)
SUNSET BOULEVARD (Waxman scores)
NOW VOYAGER (not named as such) (Bette Davis scores)Which ones am I still missing? I know there's a Rosza disc and Varese put out an EMPIRE STRIKES BACK CD, but I'm not sure if there are any others.
NP: CAPTAIN BLOOD (various; NPO/Gerhardt)

Hi Richard:I didn't see mention of Gerhardt's LOST HORIZON - THE CLASSIC FILM SCORES OF DIMITRI TIOMKIN. I happen to have two copies of this one, so maybe we can do a trade.

Yes, well worth getting.....even Tiomkin doubters (eh, Bob) can't deny that the composer created some damn fine movie music. Here's a tracklisting for the 1989 RCA release.
Lost Horizon
Prelude; Foreward Card; Riot in Baskui; Mob Scene at Refueling Station; Morning After the Plane Crash (5:46)Arrival of the Caravan; The Journey Over the Mountains (2:56)
Entrance into Shangri-La (2:25)
Noctune (2:23)
Riding Sequence; The Waterfall; Chinese Children's Scherzo (2:37)Bell Sequence; Funeral Cortege of the High Lama; Escape from Shangri-La; Return to Shangri-La (6:58)
The Guns of Navarone: Prelude (2:23)
The Big Sky: Prelude; Forest at Night (Noctune); The Wide Missouri (Epilogue) (8:09)
The Fourposter: Overture (2:36)
Friendly Persuasion: Love Scene in the Barn (5:57)
Search for Paradise: Choral Finale (3:33)
Hardly a comprehensive overview, but what there is is well performed in good sound.

Hi Don:Enjoyed your comments on Ron Goodwin... and things 'lounge', in general. I would certainly trade the Tiomkin, for the Goodwin.
Has EMI reissued Goodwin's "Adventure!" lp?

Yes, Bob. Studio 2 coupled it with his 'Legend of the Glass Mountain' album, most of which can be found on the recent 'The Magnificent Man and His Music Machine' which provides a superb overview of his work (including his brilliant main theme to 'Frenzy' and the lovely Cafe Waltz from The Trials of Oscar Wilde). They've also released Manuel and His Music of the Mountains' (the great Geoff Love in disguise!) breathtakingly cheesy albums 'Reflections' and 'Carival' on one 2-CD set. The remastered sound is fantastic and the arrangements are brilliant - especially Bali Ha'l and Ebb Tide.

Sorry, Hector. I keep a detailed record of all my cds and I had this one down twice. There is only one Gerhardt Gone With The Wind recording as you have described.Apologies for misleading you. It was a genuine error.

Richard, there's one in the RCA Victor series, produced by Gerhardt but conducted by the composer David Raksin, which is one of the most perfect score CDs I've ever heard, in my humble opinion. It has suites from Raksin's LAURA, FOREVER AMBER and THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL on it, and is absolutely amazing. FOREVER AMBER in particular, in a twenty-five minute rendition of the best bits of the score, never fails to have me open-mouthed in awe and on the verge of tears at the same time.

Graham,I have the Raskin disc, and it's very good (I'm wondering whether to try and pick up the Varese CD of FOREVER AMBER and the Rhino (?) CD of BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, but that's another topic). I didn't realise it was actually produced by Charles Gerhardt, though. Like the others in the series, the sound quality is amazing.
