Can anyone help me with this? I don't have a clue!

Also, I checked the IMDB, but I wasn't able to find out which of Mozart's piano sonatas was used in the film (the music Magneto was listening to in his cell, I presume) ... was it K. 576? If so, can anyone identify the specific passages, and where they might fit into the track order?

    Thanks!

I think it goes somthing like this...

    5. Cerebro
    4. Sneaky Mystique
    6. Mansion Attack
    9. Magneto's Old Tricks
    12. Playing with Fire
    2. Storm's Perfect Storm
    10. I'm In
    8. It's Time
    13. Death Strikes Deathstryke
    3. Finding Faith
    11. If you Really Knew
    14. Getting Out Alive
    7. Rogue Earns Her Wings
    15. Goodbye
    16. We're Here to Stay
    1. Suite from X2

Track 16, "We're Here to Stay," seems to end with an excerpt from the main titles, so take that into consideration. And I'm not entirely certain whether track 3 belongs before 13, after 11, or between 13 and 11 (as I have placed it). But I think that's how it went.

Oh, and I believe the Mozart sonata Magneto was listening to was K. 545 (Sonata No. 16 in C major).

    SPOILERS

Magento's Old Tricks is actually two different cues from the film; one from the middle when Mageneto escapes, and another one from near the end when he works with Cerebro.

Also, the end of "We're Here to Stay", as indicated by Casey, contains some of the Main Title.

So, you really can't resequence the CD fully.

That suite that leads the CD is NOT the End Credits. They are much longer. As a matter of fact there was some great action music (which may have been used during the Wolverine & Deathstrike battle) that I heard that blew me away.

I'm sure Dan will correct me, but I also don't recall hearing that music anywhere on the CD.

OK, working off of James' cue-order, I rearranged the score on my computer. I separated Track 9 into two cues -- "Magneto Escapes" and "Reconfiguration" -- swapped the end of "We're Here To Stay" with the major portion of the "Suite From X2" to give myself a proper Main Title and End Suite, and added the two Mozart pieces (from my classical music collection).

    1. Main Title (1:02)
    2. Dies Irae - Requiem Mass [W.A. Mozart] (1:51)
    3. Cerebro (1:26)
    4. Sneaky Mystique (3:32)
    5. Mansion Attack (7:34)
    6. II. Andante - Sonata No. 16 in C Major, K.545 [W.A. Mozart] / Magneto Escapes (1:46)
    7. Playing With Fire (2:44)
    8. Storm's Perfect Storm (2:19)
    9. I'm In (4:11)
    10. It's Time (3:40)
    11. Death Strikes Deathstryke (4:52)
    12. Reconfiguration (3:33)
    13. Finding Faith (1:29)
    14. If You Really Knew (3:21)
    15. Getting Out Alive (3:59)
    16. Rogue Earns Her Wings (1:35)
    17. Goodbye (5:27)
    18. We're Here To Stay / Suite From X2 (7:57)

I have to say, the score makes for a MUCH better listening experience this way -- at least to my ears! For Track 6, the dissonant Magneto music sneaks in after around 20 seconds of Mozart, and the effect is quite awesome! B)

Remember, anyone with a CD-burner and a decent audio editor can make this for themselves! If you don't have Mozart's Requiem Mass and Piano Sonatas, you really should -- you can probably find decent recordings for very good prices at any CD store.

    My "Main Title" = "X2 Suite" [0:00-0:33] + "We're Here To Stay" [1:20-end]

    My "End Suite" = "We're Here To Stay" [0:00-1:20] + "X2 Suite" [0:33-end]

    See how that works?

This has always confused me, why re-arrange the tracks? There's a reason they're in the order they're in.

Of course it is, Dan. But for my "album listening experience" I wanted a shorter introduction of the theme at the beginning of the CD, and a longer exposition at the end. I've only seen the film once, so I make no claims whatsoever about "accuracy!"

Out of curiosity, is ANY part of the X2 suite taken directly from the film?

    scoreguy16:

The reason the tracks are in the order they're in is because John Ottman decided that the majority of people would enjoy them most in that configuration. "Enjoyment" is a subjective thing. I usually enjoy scores most when they resemble their original chronological order. I'm not alone in this. Fortunately, thanks to the magic of computers, I can buy the album the way John Ottman put it together, and listen to the album the way I want to hear it.

Some people enjoy the disc just the way it is, and that's perfectly fine. Me, I like to tinker.

Nope - they recorded the end titles (i.e. suite) seperately. (That's also why the performance isn't as good, IMHO, as the rest of the album - it was recorded on the first day)

Indeed! There is even a certain executive producer who had a certain film open BIG this weekend who expressed the very same sentiment regarding a certain album that you're talking about.

I think that John Ottman may well have the "Gotta Fix What Ain't Broken for the Album Release" mania that John Williams has.

Reprogramming The Usual Suspect into something closer to the film order also improves that score as a listening experience, in my opinion.

In the interest of accuracy, I've taken your rather impressive list, and replaced some titles with those that I know were what Ottman titled the cues.

Main Titles (Partially in WE'RE HERE TO STAY part 2)
White House Attack (Ottman, with a bit of Mozart)
    Alkali Lake
    Telepathy (almost totally ambient)
    Premonition
    Breaking News
    Find Him First
    Mutant Evidence
    Some Kind Of War
    Jean and Logan
Andante from "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" (Mozart)
    One Final Talk
    CEREBRO
    SNEAKY MYSTIQUE (shortened on CD)
    Meeting Nightcrawler
    Wolverine's Nightmare
    Sorry Charles
    MANSION ATTACK
    Opening Cerebro
    Bottoms Up
    Jason's Story
    Harmless Kiss
Allegro from "Sonata in C Major" (Mozart)
Magneto Escapes (Part 1 of MAGNETO'S OLD TRICKS)
    What Bobby Can Do
    FINDING FAITH
    PLAYING WITH FIRE
    Mind Games
    STORM'S PERFECT STORM
    Fireside Chat
    Reading Nightcrawler
    I Love Him
    Seductive Mystique
    Magneto And Pyro
    Captive Children
    I'M IN
    Invading The Base
    IT'S TIME
    Lovers Quarrel
    Something's Wrong
DEATH STRIKES DEATHSTRYKE (The music for the brief cut-away to Pyro's defection sounds tracked)
Find The Mutants, Kill Them All
Reconfiguration (Part 2 of MAGNETO'S OLD TRICKS)
IF YOU REALLY KNEW (shortened on CD)
    Breaking The Illusion
    GETTING OUT ALIVE
ROGUE EARNS HER WINGS (shortened on CD)
    GOODBYE
    She's Gone
WE'RE HERE TO STAY (Part 1)
    Life Goes On
    The Lake
End Credits (partially the X2 SUITE, with edited material from the film)

There are two other cues "Permission" and "Where Is Everyone?", but I can't remember which those would replace in your list.... Ther was also a cue recorded for a deleted scene, "Xavier Escapes".

Hmmm ... I think "Where is Everyone" is something Jason says to Professor X when he first pulls him into the Cerebro illusion. It probably replaces "Mind Games," which I think is that scene. Or maybe "Find The Mutants, Kill Them All."

Might "Permission" be "Mutant Evidence," when Stryker gets the President's approval to attack the mansion?

Not sure where a "Xavier Escapes" scene would fit in. Maybe I'll flip through the novelization next time I'm at the store.

Oh yeah - doublechecked, and the "Death Strikes Deathstrike" on the album is two cues edited together...... the 2nd cue "Deathstryke Dies" actually contains the music when Pyro leaves with Magneto, before jumping back into the fight.

    So, it's not tracked in.

And "Where is Everyone?" definitely replaces "Mind Games".

I also made a mistake, and "Jean and Logan" should replace "I Love Him / Seductive Mystique".

OK ... version 3.0 ... wish I could listen to the score this way! Thanks for all the help, Dan. Some people might consider this a pointless waste of time.

Main Titles (Partially in WE'RE HERE TO STAY pt. 2)
White House Attack (Ottman, with a bit of Mozart)
    Alkali Lake
    Telepathy (almost totally ambient)
    Premonition
    Breaking News
    Find Him First
    Permission
    Some Kind Of War
    Welcome Back
Andante from "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" (Mozart)
    One Final Talk

    Meeting Nightcrawler
    Wolverine's Nightmare
    Sorry Charles
    MANSION ATTACK
    Opening Cerebro

    Jason's Story
    Harmless Kiss
Allegro from "Sonata in C Major" (Mozart)
Magneto Escapes (pt. 1 of MAGNETO'S OLD TRICKS)
Xavier Escapes (Conjectural ... my guess is it belongs after his capture, but before the illusion takes hold.)
    What Bobby Can Do
    FINDING FAITH
    PLAYING WITH FIRE
    Where Is Everyone?
    STORM'S PERFECT STORM
    Fireside Chat
