This from musicfromthemovies.com:ARMSTRONG LATEST VICTIM
Craig Armstrong has fallen victim to Hollywood’s current dumping spell! Armstrong has been removed from scoring duties on Tomb Raider 2 and another composer is being engaged. This adds to the growing list of composers who have been removed from projects or have had their scores dumped in recent months:
Mychael Danna – The Hulk
David Julyan – Mindhunters
Elmer Bernstein – Gangs of New York
Jerry Goldsmith – Timeline
Angelo Badalamenti – Identityposted 04-30-2003 12:38 AM PT (US)

Mychael Danna – The Hulk - Dumped before anything was recorded, though their could be sheet music?David Julyan – Mindhunters
Never heard of that one. Was anything recorded?
Elmer Bernstein – Gangs of New York
I think we all know by now.
Jerry Goldsmith – Timeline
I was really looking forward to this and he recorded it too. Damn them.
Angelo Badalamenti – Identity
Again, didn't know. Anything recorded?
I was looking forward to Armstrong's TR2. Did he record anything? This has been quit a little year. Next thing you know they will drop Williams from SW3.

Sounds like a good project for Jerry Goldsmith.

Yup. Exactly the type of movie trash Goldsmith likes to score.

Jan de Bont is directing. Isn't Mark Mancina signed for the music then? IMDb also lists him as the composer.[Message edited by ESB on 04-30-2003]

I had heard Mancinca was scoring TR2, but then it turned out to be Armstrong. Now..... who knows?

Add Basil Poledouris to the list. He's being replaced by Micheal Kamen on the new Kevin Costner western Open Range. Sheesh. It's getting rocky out there.

OK...that one upsets me.But...Mark Mancina would be a suitable replacement.

Wanna bet Kamen will NOT replace Armstrong on Tomb Raider 2?(Especially as he was booted off the first one.)
Mancina would be a logical replacement but if they decide to wait until 10 days before the film's release, they could always ask Graeme Revell to do another quick job for them.
Let's just say all these replacements don't bode well for the films themselves.
James
P.S. I realize Kamen's name was brought into this thread in regards to Open Range and NOT TR2. I just decided to complicate things. ;-)

I wonder if this means TR2 will be the same dull film we were treated to the first time around.Either that or Armstrong wrote a strong symphonic score and TPTB wanted a techno crap fest.

Well if it's not Mark Mancina, then it must be Jerry Goldsmith. He has almost all the music composed and recorded (Timeline),and he did The Haunting for Jan De Bont,so it's the obvious choice...

NP:Speed 2 (Mark Mancina)Of course the irony in all that would be the fact that it was Paramount (who produced Tomb Raider 2) that dumped Goldsmith's Timeline score.

Yes, I agree, workaluk. What they're planning to do is just track Tomb Raider 2 with Jerry's rejected score from Timeline.[Message edited by jonathan_little on 04-30-2003]

Oh...is THAT what he meant? I'm sorry...if that was what he was saying then it was as clear as mud.Doubtful they would just track Goldsmith's Timeline into the film at this late a stage.

What if they use some library porn music?
Those often have good tunes and nice rythms.

It might as well be porn. Typical Hollywood. The first film sucked, so let's make a sequel!!!I've heard Travolta's working on Battlefield Earth 2: The Mighty Suck

THIS JUST IN: Craig Armstrong is NOT off of Tomb Raider. Music From The Movies is going to be issuing a retraction to their erroneous news item from earlier today. This is directly from Armstrong's publicist, Ray Costa.
