So I went to the store.
    Browsed soundtracks.
Wondered about picking up either "The Fantasy Album" (a PraguophonicŪ recording), or this Goldsmith CD.

    Picked up Goldsmith.

GREAT STUFF! << please forgive allcaps.

Now I understand why some (Jonathan ? and others) were saying the LSO sounded bored on the Telarc discs.

This Goldsmith thing is a perfect example of what happens when good music is performed by a good orchestra (winkwinknotlikePraguewink) and well recorded. No matter what Silva did during the remastering process to improve the sound, it could not sound this good if Mike Ross-Trevor's original recording was poor. Praised be Mike Ross and Gareth Williams.

The Philharmonia does a lot better here than elsewhere (ie. the screwed up Rimsky-Korsakov recordings for ASV).

Film music rerecordings just don't get much better than this.

Yes it is a fantastic sounding cd. They HDCD remaster is a really BIG improvment on the original rlease. This is a must get for THE BLUE MAX SUITE alone. The performance is real good.

Good choice, Dinko. This is a great album.

Great sound, fine performance (except Lionheart ), and magnificent music... It sure doesn't get much better.

BUT...the Blue Max suite still doesn't come close to the 2001 London performance.

Marian is still under the spell of The Blue Max from the 2001 live concert he went to.

As Joe Gillis might've consoled Norma Desmond's ex-husband-turned-butler over his evident heartbreak in SUNSET BOULEVARD:

    "Don't be blue, Max."
