I too am not impressed with Shawn Murphy's work as of late, but there was one score last year that Murphy recorded that had me singing praises. If any of you want to hear what Murphy is capably of delivering then listen to his recording of James Newton Howard's score to Treasure Planet. Murphy is a good engineer it's just that he is inconstant to my ears. His Williams recordings are the worst of the lot.So far, the most impressive mixer/engineer... whatever... to my ears is Dennis Sands who blew me away with his recordings of most of Silvetri's scores. The Mummy Returns is an example of how a score should be recorded... and his recording of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? should be the blue-print for recording the London Symphony Orchestra. Sands has even worked with Williams on Rosewood and recorded Williams' best sounding score since Murphy's Hook and Jurassic Park, IMHO!
My two cents,
-Erik-
P.S. -- This is an X2 thread so I'm looking forward to hearing the score! There!

Dennis Sands is tops these days, to my ears. Erik is right, ROSEWOOD is Williams' best sounding album. The recording is incredibly dynamic, and is mastered at a meaty level. Sands' PLANET OF THE APES is brilliant.Shawn Murphy is a little uneven. Listen to two of Elfman's best-sounding albums, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and THE FRIGHTENERS for evidence of his best work, but something like COURAGE UNDER FIRE sounds flat.
Probably has to do with the composers...

Simon Rhodes is also a little tricky. Don't like his work on DARK CITY, but it sounds great on G.I. JANE.

From what mixers do you consistently hear good things these days (all may reply)?Sorry to say I have not heard much of your own work, so I cannot comment on it.
So far I like:
Richard King and Michael Sheady. They are the ones who provide sonics I always enjoy, even when I don't like the music. (I even ended up buying another Planets recording because the balance engineer by Sheady
)Other than those two, I tend to like John Richards, Geoff Foster (too bright at times), Dennis Sands, Bruce Botnick, and Robert Fernandez...
...as well as anyone who records in DSD.
