    Oh, brother. More stuff?

MovieMusic is now carrying a decent selection of FSM releases, specifically all titles that are still available from the first four volumes. Price might be right, too, so take a look-see. Be warned, young fanboys: all of these CDs are from way before 1980, so most of you will be cringing.

    Let the complaining begin!

What cringe? The Omega Man was well worth it and FSM should have made more. Regrets.

And who here doesn't want Batman?

You did it all for us. 1) all are from before 1980, before I was born. 2) Some of them appear to be before my parents were born. 3) The price is more or less right, so that's one less reason to blast legal bootlegs, which means one less reason to complain, and I don't accept that. 4) blahblahblahblah. 5) I don't see why I should pay for these CDs only. I want a perk in return. Free one year membership to the Film Music Society would be a good start.

I have every one of these and the sound quality is as good as is humanly possible considering the age of the recordings.

The liner notes are quite nice, being descriptive and full of photos and cue-by-cue breakdown of the scores.

You have scores here by every major composer as well as a few gems by lesser known composers. For Goldsmith collectors this is a godsend as there are several scores here that were only available as boots. Better sound and more complete.

    I Consider These Must haves:

Patton - With original trumpet echoplexes in place, this is simply one of Jerry’s finest scores. The re-record with RSO is nice, but the original is awe inspiring. Coupled with Frank De Vol’s Flight of the Phoenix you have a winning combination. )

The Egyptian - A rare collaboration between two giants - Alfred Newman & Bernard Herrmann. Simply incredible.

Prince Valiant – A tour de force by Franz Waxman. Incredible music for a medieval epic.

Lust for Life – Fabulous Miklos Rosza score. FSM has put out several of his scores now, but this one is probably the best known and with good reason.

There are plenty of others (On The Beach, All About Eve, Prince of Foxes, Take a Hard Ride, Beneath the 12 Mile Reef, Tora!Tora!Tora!, Flim-Flam Man, Best of Everything) I would recommend but the above are incredibly important and great scores. Plus, you are getting them for less than I paid! You lucky bastards!

I have never regretted purchasing any of these CDs.

Everybody should have a copy of Prince Valiant in their collection. It's such a wonderful score and it sounds really decent for 1954 as well. I love the performance, too, as it's a very exuberant and nearly flawless take on this great music.

Beneath the 12-Mile Reef is absolutely great music as well, but unfortunately time was not kind to the masters. It sounds like caca, but the music is so good that I listen to it pretty often anyway.

There are two notable Goldsmith westerns on the list as well, 100 Rifles and Take a Hard Ride. Take a Hard Ride is probably the more accessible one with its happy rip-roaring Main Title theme, while 100 Rifles keeps a rough and darker tone throughout.

    Buy buy buy!

I have a City of Prague Crapophonic suite.
(it's actually fairly decent, given the circumstances )

Actually, www.deepdiscountcd.com had gotten in a supply of FSM titles and were selling them for $14.62 each, with free shipping -- even cheaper than I could get them by driving halfway across town to buy them at FSM's offices for $19.99 ea., with, of course, no shipping charge.

I bought about fifteen of them -- and saved about $75.00 -- until FSM got wind of the discs' availability at deepdiscount and demanded that they stop selling their product.

How often is it that you hear of a manufacturer demanding that its product not be sold?

That's pretty silly. Isn't it up to them if they want to tell the disc at a ultra-low cost? Man, what didn't you tell us?! Haha.

That being said, it's great Peter is stocking these. Awesome prices, PK! I might just indulge at some point.

Perfpitch, I understand your moniker now. Since you are appropriately pitching deepdiscount, curveball some of that $75 in the direction of MovieMusic, and write it off as advertising. Thank you.

Personally, it matters not to me where you get these CDs - adding them to the MM store is only a service to regular customers who have asked for them. Voila, and so it begins. We hope it continues.

jonathan_little, mwruger, mucho thanks for breaking trend and actually forking over some nice words about some of these CDs. This is what we come here for.

Jerry Goldsmith fans, what are you waiting for? Lots of stuff here from FSM. Lots.

NP - Levity (music by the Eels frontman... I like it)

That's not a bad deal for those of us in LA.... Unless Peter has free shipping.....

(I could save a whole buck! Woohoo! You're right Jeron - those ARE awesome prices!)

Mr dgoldwas is not a regular customer of MM, as you can guess by his own admonitions above. I am surprised by his comments, as he just said yesterday he "has no issues with the little store," saying if he did, "he wouldn't bother to come here."

    Dan, this is your cue.

I'd rather save a buck and give the business to Peter. And yeah, 18.99 is more appealing than 19.99, especially when you ain't exactly rolling in the dough.

Right - and again, that all presumes free shipping. Which Peter still has yet to answer.

And Peter, nice "anonymous" quote. And you wonder why I haven't bought anything? Maybe it's because you have no respect for me - so why should I show you any? You won't even use my name 99% of the time.

I still have no issues with your store (which I stand by). But just because I have no issues with your store doesn't mean I have to buy from there.

Actually, from what I've read at the FSM boards, it seems that Deep Discount CD obtained the FSM CDs through Collector's Choice Music. Deep Discount CD's cheap supply of FSM discs from this secondary source simply ran out once film score fans got wind of the discount.

Well, free shipping is only an issue for those of you who live in LA. For everybody else, it is a moot point. So for all you LA guys, I guess you have to decide if it is worth the drive to spend an extra dollar a disc. My advice is to buy about six and then the savings will equal the shipping. Everybody else can save the buck and the sales tax.

But actually, I think you should get these great CD's regardless of what your feelings are about Movie Music or FSM.

This is some incredible music and along with a few other great companies (Varese, Prometheus, Intrada, Marco Polo, etc) catering to the Film Score buff, FSM is one of the good guys.

I say again, it is an embarrassment of riches. There are more scores then ever before available, including scores that long time collectors "knew" would never be available except as a bootleg.

It can't last, so I advise everyone to get whatever they can, while they can.

FSM is charging $19.99 -- a retailer is selling if for $5 less. What do you think FSM's costs are??

I don't mean to make this sound like an indictment against FSM. I just think it goes a ways to explaining why they'd ask for their product to be pulled. Or perhaps, I was just stating the obvious?

PS: I'm not a regular customer as MM.com either. Does that mean the guy pulling the strings is free to mock me publically?

The point is, FSM had already sold those discs to somebody, who then turned around and sold them to deepdiscount.com. The discs weren't stolen and they're not bootlegs.

FSM got its price -- obviously somewhat discounted from the $19.99 they charge customers directly -- on the discs when they were sold to the first buyer; what that first buyer did with them afterward -- apparently selling them to deepdiscount.com at little or no markup -- is nobody's business, and the fact that it may undercut FSM's list price is irrelevant.
