I guess we're starting to see Varese crack under the pressure to make more commercial soundtrack recordings.

Their release of "Bruce Almighty" will feature at least 7 songs on the CD according to their site. Oh...and lest we forget...some score hightlights by John Debney.

    What a disappointment.

    BRUCE ALMIGHTY
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Various Artists

    Featuring:

    God Gave Me Everything
    Mick Jagger
    A Little Less Conversation
    Elvis Presley VS. J-XL
    The Power
    Snap!
    Rockafeller Skank
    Fat Boy Slim
    God Shaped Hole
    Plumb
    You’re A God
    Vertical Horizon
    One Of Us
    Joan Osborne

plus selections from the original score by John Debney!

    Jim Carrey

Bruce Almighty stars Jim Carrey as Bruce Nolan, a “human interest” television reporter in Buffalo, New York who is disconnected with almost everything in life, despite his popularity and the love of his girlfriend Grace (Jennifer Aniston). At the end of the worst day in his life, Bruce angrily ridicules and rages against God — and God responds. He appears in human form (Morgan Freeman) and, endowing Bruce with all of His divine powers, challenges Bruce to take on the big job and see if he can do any better.

Expected to be one of the blockbusters of the summer and one of Jim Carrey’s biggest hits yet, Bruce Almighty opens May 23 and is the Memorial Day picture this year!

    Release Date: 06/03/03

Also coming is Elia Cmiral's score to "Wrong Turn."

    WRONG TURN
    Original Motion Picture Score

    Music Composed by Elia Cmiral

A wrong turn leaves a group of young people trapped in the West Virginia wilderness — and hunted by cannibalistic mountain men grossly disfigured through years of in-breeding. The film features makeup and creature effects created by Stan Winston (Interview With A Vampire, Predator).

This horrific adventure film from Twentieth Century Fox opens nationwide on May 30.

    Catalog #: 302 066 474 2
    Release Date: 06/03/03

Hey...don't quote me on that synopsis. I got that DIRECT from Varese's description of the film.

I suspect that this Bruce Almightly release will be just like the first Ballistic: Ecks Vs Sever release which contained songs with the Main and End Title cues from the score. Then two months later they will release a 35 minute score only version.

    Just my thoughts,

    Varese ain't stupid.

they know this will be a money-maker for them (and John Debney).

and I say, good for them. As long as that helps to finance other projects.

Do they mean "horrific adventure film" (ie: a film about a horrific adventure) or do they mean "horrific adventure film" (a horrific film about an adventure)?

I hope this release can fund more Herrmann and Waxman re-recordings.

John Debney has been pooping out really disappointing scores lately.

How dare Varese try to make money! They're a business. They should be releasing MORE MUSIC FROM 'ON THE BEACH', not this stuff that sells!

    Okay,

I see where my post has headed.

Apparently it's okay to bitch & moan because they choose to release club stuff like "Hawaii," "Magic," "Beloved Infidel," and "Return of a Man Called Horse" but NOT okay to bitch when they release a regular crap compiliation of songs with a few meager score pieces that we could get from a major label like MCA.

Let's be honest, this "Bruce Almighty" CD isn't going to be a top 10 release. My guess is that it will do slightly better than their "Bowfinger" release.

As Cher would say from "Clueless:" WhatEVER.

Now where did you see that it was ok to complain about Club releases and not about the other stuff? As far as I remember, last time some of us complained about the club releases, the usual STPD agents came down on us like every other time.

As far as I gather so far, forbidden are bitching and moaning about anything released by the Great God Varèse Sarabande, club release or crap release.

Was anyone really worried that they'd never own John Debney's BRUCE ALMIGHTY score on CD? I mean, come on -- this is John Debney doing a Jim Carrey light comedy. Does anyone NEED another one of these scores?

Varese is doing a service here -- whatever music comes from BRUCE that is on the OST will be more then enough. This isn't like PIRATES OF THE CARRIBBEAN or something, this is BRUCE frickin' ALMIGHTY!

the operative word in this thread is "complain."

Anyone who would complain about great music being released deserves to pay a fine to the STPD and serve at least a couple minutes of community service.

You should know, you were the one who suggested the spot.....
Always with the anger. Need some management Ryan? You could instead be trying to find away to use my name in a funny way, but go for the low below the head jokes that are rarely funny. Scratch that. I can't think of a funny one.

Um...you don't actually have to buy these CDs if you don't really want them.

Varese release a hell of a lot of CDs and it would be absurd to suggest that every single one should be specifically tailored to individual tastes. I won't bother with BRUCE ALMIGHTY unless there's at least 30 minutes of score on there (which might even be all Debney wrote for it); the same way I'm not even going to think about dipping into Varese's exhaustive collections of Irish folk, Gene Autry and Johnny Cash and miscellaneous obscurities too numerous to contemplate.

And yes, God forbid Varese should be allowed to put something out of a vaguely commercial nature instead of yielding to the anal fanboy contingent of the sub-sub-sub-demographic niche that soundtrack buyers occupy....
