So, does anyone have any thoughts on David Arnold doing this score?I had presumed that it would be an electronically heavy score, with minimal orchestra. But now I find out that the scoring session I'll be attending this weekend is a full-on orchestra. Could we be in for a Bond-like score?
(Yes, I know I'll be able to fill you in after the weekend, but I'm trying to foster discussion, not conjecture.)

I'd guess that 2 Fast 2 Furious for Arnold will land somewhere between ENOUGH and SHAFT, with yeah, some pretty heavy electronic elements in the overlay. Both Enough and Shaft utilize 'full-on' orchestras.Sounds like a potentially fun score. Being from David Arnold, it'll undoubtedly be good, regardless.
He's a great choice for this sequel, though I wish he would take on some more dramatic projects, along the lines of Last of the Dogmen. There's nothing like a beautiful David Arnold melody. Err... with the small exception of a beautiful John Barry melody. And then again, they both have their own unique signatures.

LOL, Dan. Discussion instead of conjecture over something we haven't heard yet. And ironically (and sadly) you may succeed.NP Far From Heaven (which I've actually heard.

If it's anything like his Bond scores (particularly the last two) I hope the CD mix is better. The DAD CD had a lot of good stuff buried under bad electronics.

Mmm, if there is an actual ORCHESTRA for this movie, there is a good chance I might like this David Arnold effort, like I did his Bond scores.

David Arnold rarely dissappoints, I will be looking foward to this score. I really don't care if its electronic based or an orchestra, as long as its good music.

CD mix?does one really think there will be any kind of score release, aside from maybe, MAYBE 3 minutes of Arnold stuff, on a second disc unreadable on CD-ROM drives?

I hate films with titles like 2 Fast 2 Furious.
I hate them as much as I hate shops with names like Rugz 4 U.

Dan,Would you be good enough to ask him about the likelihood of a score release?
Thanks,

I wonder if he'll bring back some of BT's themes. Doubtful since they revolved around Dominique and his team in the first film. Would be cool though.

Score sounds just like expected - a fine blend of orchestra and hip-hop rhythms and beats. (Yeah, I'll even use the word "Bond-like", if it makes you happy.)There's about 60 minutes of score in the film, but don't expect a score album.
I look forward to the film in June!Dan

You say a blend of hip-hop and orchestra...but that describes everything from Tomorrow Never Dies to Changing Lanes and there's a big difference there. Is it fast, mildly thematic, full of brass hits and aggressive like Die Another Day? Or is it moody with low-key progressions and more thoughtful drum loops like Changing Lanes?

(ok, ok - it's more like the former than the latter. I'm not gonna spill all the details, though.)

LOL.... Brendan, the film looks fun - definitely a popcorn flick. Singleton hadn't really heard much of the score before the session, and was realllly excited about what he heard.(Oh - and David even mentioned you.

No, I'm not joking. And yes, David knows you're one of his biggest most vocal supporters. (He is rather internet saavy.....)

Let that be a lesson to the rest of you: if you spend 5 years on internet messageboards emphaticly praising the works of your favorite film composer, it just might get someone's attention.

-Brendan, happy to be a fanboy in this case

Yep! But on the flip side - spend those five years criticizing a composer, and they might just take notice as well.....
So, let THAT be a lesson to some of you out there!

...a scary proposition for some, I'm sure.
But I know in my heart that Mr. Goldsmith knows that any criticism I might have expressed in the last 5 years for his work is coming purely from a standpoint of admiration for such an influential and distinguished career.
I mean, if we didn't all love all film music at its most fundamental level, we'd all be off listening to "music inspired by" albums instead, right?
