I'm a big fan of Sylvester Levay's film music from Hollywood between 1984 and 1993, before he moved back to Europe. I like his soft keyboard style that surely became his trademark, and tried to rent as many of his films as possible to hear his music, because not many of his scores got a release.

Anyone here who wants to discuss his music?

Well i think anyone who liked Moroder and Faltermeyer, must have liked Levay as well, very similar in sound, i even think Levay played keyboards on 'Cat People', and i do remember some stuff he did on 'Cobra'.
Didn't know he moved back to Europe though.

HOT SHOTS! HOT SHOTS! HOT SHOTS! An absolutely brilliant parody of Top Gun and all those MV scores of late. A true blast!

    Regards,

    MV Gerhard

Actually, Moroder was the one that gave him the chance in Hollywood. Levay also played on Moroder's Flashdance. And yes, Faltermeyer was also a "pupil" of Moroder.

Levay moved back to Europe (he's actually born in Hungary) to work on musicals, what a pity, I would have loved to see him continue film and TV scoring.

Hot Shots was a Top Gun rip off but it also had Levay's own trademark style, he even copied his own Navy Seals style. Also, Levay used an orchestra on Hot Shots - I don't think Faltermeyer ever touched an orchestra...

I wonder if Levay was asked to score Hot Shots 2 and turned it down.

    Ahhhhh... THAT Levay

Watched the musical "Mozart!" which he was involved in I believe.

I absolutely loved Levay's work on Airwolf.Especially that great theme.I also enjoyed his scores for Hot Shots,Navy Seals,Cobra and Stone Cold. I believe he also wrote additional music for Howard the Duck,Three o'clock High and Tobe Hooper's Invaders from Mars remake.

Levay said in the liner notes of the limited 'Airwolf Themes' cd from a few years ago that he would love to compose the music for a really big "emotionally-loaded" movie as he has never had the chance to do that.I would really love to hear something like that from him.

And see this? Not only did the 2CD set sell out, but at timews it was like 70.00! Now tell me a CD of score from CHiPS, composer by a famous composer, Alan Silvestri would not sell out. Especially since it would be cheaper. Now thats a limited edition CD I'd buy

I liked Levay's work on HOT SHOTS!, but I loved his score for MANNEQUIN (the movie wasn't so bad, either). Pity it was never released.
