Hello to all the John Williams/Jurassic Park soundtrack fans out there, recently the video game "Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis" has been released and as some have noticed it has an amazing soundtrack. In an attempt to get the soundtrack released officially I've put together a petition to try and persuade Universal Studios. The composer of the soundtrack himself commented that it'd possibly work with a good number of signatures and that's where you come in, we need all the help we can get so please sign this petition and help out fellow fans of the wonderful music Williams created and other fine composers are expanding upon. (Some of you may recall the soundtrack to The Lost World Playstation game was released, so it has happened before)Here's a link to the petition:

Also the new Indiana Jones game "The Emperors' Tomb" also has a fantasic action-adventure soundtrack for full orchestra. It would nice to get that. As well as the upcoming Tomb Raider game "Angel of Darkness" performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

Yeah, video games are really starting to shine in the music world, who knows, maybe eventually they'll release the soundtracks to every new game just like with the movies...

Interesting that you should say that. I read an article about the composer Nobuo Uemitsu (Final Fintasy 1-12), and he said. In Japan game soundtracks are just as popular as movie soundtracks. And there are some game composers like himself, that are considered celebrites just like we think of John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith.
And he's right, theres a soundtrack to almost every Japanese game espcially RPGs.
And not only that but they release different versions of the soundtrack. For example you have the option of getting the "Original Soundtrack", "Arranged Version", "Remixed Version", Piano Version" "Symphonic Version", "Vocal Version" and so on.posted 04-07-2003 01:57 PM PT (US)

I got the new Jurassic park game for the PC. I got a copy for free at work since I'm the only one who plays game on the PC. I never put the cd in until you mentioned the score. So I did, there is around 59 minutes of the score on the cd. It is pretty good so far.Jeff

I just picked this game up today after hearing some of the music. The music files all have the extension *.ogg. How can I convert this music to mp3s so I can listen to it away from the game?

Not the best way to get people to sign your petition now is it?

I'd prefer someone not to sign it if their comment were to contain nasty comments about the game or the music.Anyways, I've gotten in contact with the composer and he's mentioned that if OG sells a lot of copies a soundtrack release would be more likely to happen. Good news includes the possibility of putting an unused track (intended for when the dinosaurs break loose in the game) to be an addition to a possible soundtrack. Also with the release of JP:OG in Japan coming later this year, if the game sells really well a soundtrack may be a greater possibility since game soundtracks are popular over there. Stephan also put an end to the possibility of a Gamecube version of the game saying it was for unknown reasons scrapped though it was intended to be made in early game production. Expect more news including a complete track list...

Ya know, I was really interested in hearing what all the hype was about. So much, that I had a friend of mine rip the OGG tracks and shoot them over to me. After spending about 5 minutes converting them all to MP3s, then another 5 sequencing it all... At this point, I've listened to most of the music, and I hate to say it, but it's really pretty boring. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it works great in the game, and yes - it's all orchestral, but the orchestrations aren't even all that interesting. Half, if not 2/3rds of the score is the orchestra repeating a portion of one of Williams' JP themes - a portion, mind you - and believe me when I say that this begins to really wear on you. It repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats and repeats... you get the point. Every now and then the arrangement will become a tad bit more interesting, but not before it falls back into the lull of "we're building, we're building, look at the dinos, we're building..." The action cues do offer a nice break from the mediocrity of it all, but even those feel a bit derivative.I don't know the composer's name (Stephen something?), but his writing for *this project* feels like an amateur attempt paying an homage to Williams' style, but falling pretty flat and a few miles short of Giacchino's work on the MOH series. That's not to say this guy isn't talented or capable of writing some cool stuff! But it's obvious that Universal (or whoever) wanted a certain thing for this score, and it sounds like they probably got it. In essense, it's nothing new. The disc as is totals at 59:42 - almost an hour of music. It's too much! This would make a good 30 minute disc, I think. Maybe.
Anyway, just my passing thoughts. I really don't meant to burst your bubble, Dinosaur Neill. If you really like this stuff, I say keep pushing for it. Who am I to say otherwise? I'll give it a couple more listens - if I can manage it, but so far I'm pretty underwhelmed. In fact, I'm gonna turn it off for now and go listen to Giacchino's "The Lost World" or Don Davis' exhilirating "JP3" -- I've really gotta refresh my memory and remind myself of how good Jurassic Park spin-off scores can and have been in the past.

I agree with Jeron, the music is very slow and boring! I like a few cues like "Sunrise", but most of it is rather dull.
A soundtrack to the new Indy game would be better. Also Silva Screen is releasing an interesting score to the new game Primal for PS2. Its performed by The City of Prauge Philharmonic and Choir and conducted by Nic Raine. Its released on May 6th
