    Masterpiece without question!
I love the CD, and the concert was the first DVD I ever bought.

Its performed mainly on keyboards, backed up by the London Metropoltian Orchestra and Chorus (a huge one!) conducted by Blake Neely, with two powerful Opera singers Jesse Norman and Kathleen Battle. They really...put on a show, and a re fun to watch perform on the DVD.

The reviews for it were mixed. The die hard Vangelis Fans complain that its too distant from his usual style. They tend to reccomend Cosmos over it.
But I think its fantasic, and before this I payed no attentions to operas.

This is one CD that really needed to be recorded in a Studio. Other than that, I like it. It reminds me of 1492, which will always be the ultimate Vangelis for me.

Highly recommended! But I agree with Hadrian that it could do with a studio recording.

Very nice stuff. I especially like the use of the 2 sopranos. Vangelis is rarely my taste, but this album was a pleasant surprise, and it's indeed high quality music.

    boooooooooorrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnngggg.

Has a couple of very nice elements. Has a few so-so parts. And has a lot pointless monotone background-music-style droning.

It's also a scam. Sony scammed anyone who ever bought it based on the idea of a huge piece for orchestra, choir, percussion, keyboards and sopranos. The London Metropolitan Orchestra is mixed in so badly it sounds like a Toys R Us keyboard! Which makes it totally redundant. If you can even hear it. Especially with Vangelis banging his keyboards in unison with the orchestra completely covering the whole ensemble.

If Sony really shoved $3.5 million (as the papers had it at the time) in this piece of cheaply recorded trash they really deserve to be shot. I've heard $10 000 recordings that sound better.

Looks this whole thing took place outdoors, and the orchestra wasn't mic'ed (probably something to do with it being in an ampitheather), but it is there! and does add to the sound to the atmpospher. Vangelis' keyboards were mic'ed so they come through much louder. The choir and percussion sections have a huge thunderous sound however.

Anyway look, Vangelis is a well known keyboardists, its the thing that makes him famous. So dispite Sony's marketing, you should have already expected that Vangelis keyboards would take center stage! For example No one goes to a Chinese food resturaunt, and expect to find a menu completly of varieties of Hamburgers and Tacos. Even if they adverties that they sell such food! The majority of the menu will of coarse be Chinese food!

Synthisizers aren't evil! And if you can get over the fact that the orchestra may not be audible. And just listen to it as is, you'd find its a wonderful peice of work.

Tim, I'll agree with your points about synthesizers not being evil (sheesh... I like Harold Faltermeyer's scores!).

But when they advertised this thing on TV (on their Mythodea website too) Sony advertised it as something which had a big orchestra flown in from London. I can expect Vangelis to do his keyboard thing, but when they say it has an orchestra I also expect to hear the orchestra, not just see it. So when I expect to hear an orchestra and then it's mostly keyboards, I'm angry for life.

Dinko sir, i would like to know what sort of equipment you have to listen to music with-brand of amp.pre-amp,speakers,cd player etc.i think that mythodea has some really great stuff in it,but it needs- a better acoustical enviroment and orchestra-another recording. Not likley to happen- maybe a remix perhaps?

Cranking up the volume on Mythodea produces some powerful effects, and even disguises the scam, and makes the atmosphere music sound even mildly interesting.
