Almost like the Zimmer set, I am on disc 57 of the Williams complete anthology which includes all outtakes, and alternates of every score that he has done. Including the very rare 4 cd recording session of Family Plot.

Includes his often remarked upon Non academy nomination of "fart in a can" complete W/O SFX!!!!

    Actually...

    Just Dreamcatcher - Howard.

Gae, be careful of April Tomfoolery! By the way, what do you think of the James Bernard score to NOSFERATU? I'm not sure of the idea of getting Bernard to score this in the first place. His Hammer sound is so distinctive that it turns the old silent classic into something it was never meant to be. No criticisms of the music per se, in fact I think it's a great CD.

    + DINOSAUR (James Newton Howard)

Graham, Nosferatu is fantastic. I love the way it runs through with no break like a symphony or as James Bernard says "a symphonic poem". Some of the elements are pure Hammer horror music aren't they? As an addition though, this score is bigger in sound and scope almost as though Bernard was keen to write an epic work that was a fitting epitaph to a memorable career. Either that, or he just needed the money!!
One difference from his Hammer scores though is that probably because of the lack of dialogue, the orchestrations and texture are more fuller and he seems to have had more freedom in his composing. Also, this Dolby Surround HDCD recording by Nic Raine and the City of Prague Philharmonic is probably the best ever representation of a work by Bernard. I listen to the "Overture...Omens of Nosferatu" through my 4 speaker 100 watt system and to say that it is incredibly powerful both musically and sonically, is an understatement.

It was great!!! Many of the cues on the Best Of CD (GNP release) are re-done here and sound much better. Furthermore, it has the full versions of the themes/cues used in Godzilla Vs. Biollante. Very fun.

    Videodrome - Howard Shore

It's a relatively early Shore so should be quite experimental (not to say that he's not experimental today, I quickly add).

    So far, it's very weird.

On and off, over the last thirty years or so, I've seen a CD at the greengrocers, nestling under many generations of lettuce leaves. Then, about ten years ago, the CD disappeared. Well today it was back, and very cheap, cheaper than the lettuces that surrounded it. So I got it, thinking, what the herile.

It was the old RCA Gerhardt FILM SCORES OF HUMPTY GOCART. I love the way Gerhardt treated those scores, so I just had to get this after all those years. Max Steiner takes up most of the running time, but there are also tracks by Waxman, Hollander, Rozsa, and Victor Young. Steiner was never my favourite composer, and the marches and national anthems do tend to overwhelm the CD, but I couldn't let it rot away amongst the veg.
