A pinch of Basil would hit the spot.

I can't say I'm excited by this news of a Kong remake, my reaction is rather impassive. The original 1933 King Kong evoked something surreal and fantasy-like which had a lot to do with the behavior of the characters and the scenery having stylized qualities (especially on Skull Island). To me, part of the joy of watching KONG is being transported to a world where nothing (including New York) is real. I'm afriad all of this will be ruined in the remake. The original is one of my top 5 favorite films, and like Casablaca or Citizen Kane, King Kong is one of those movies that canīt be improved on. I guess it could be worse, but I feel this should be left alone.

PS- I am, however, looking forward to the score.

I don't think anyone noteworthy should compose it. Give it to a new guy and see what direction they can take with it.

I'm with you Alexborn007. By the time 2005 rolls around, I'll have finished my degree and be looking for work no doubt. Also, Australia is right next to New Zealand.

I'm quite sure Jackson is going to give us his own vision of King Kong, so that would need a new score.

I think Shore can tackle anything you hand him at this point, but would also be interested in seeing Williams, Silvestri, Poledouris, Arnold, Jones or mostly Goldenthal have a shot. Don Davis could also work wonders IMO.

As long as it's fully orchestral. [b]Give the ape the symphonic score he deserves (which is why I wouldn't be too keen on Elfman, judging from his recent work).

Although I think Jackson will put his own take on this project, I think a more apt comparison (if he choose to use Steiner's music) would be Scorese's CAPE FEAR.

Bill and I often get compared in ways to Basil Poledouris, which is of course a nice compliment. Although I won't mention the title because that is always a curse to not get the job, but it looks like Bill and I will be composing music to a sequel that Poledouris wrote the music for originally. Luckily the film is fairly different from the first one so we need not worry about music continuity and thematic unity, which is fine for us. It was a nice feeling when we met with the director and producer and asked them what kind of music they were wanting and they held up our Promo CD and said "like this"
We get to use a big orchestra and no temp track other than synth mockups of our own stuff. So, for a composer, this is truly heaven.
