The mailman delivered this request today:
I am looking for a different movie soundtrack to replace the song "Lady Marmalade" from the movie Moulin Rouge. My daughter's dance class has learned a dance routine to "Lady Marmalade" with the recital scheduled for three weeks from now. Yesterday several other parents and I learned the meaning of the french phase in the song and feel it is inappropriate for 6th and 7th grade girls to dance to. We are now looking for a song that might closely match the tempo of "Lady Marmalade" so that we can substitute it in the dance recital. (The theme for the recital is Movie Music so it needs to be from a movie.) Thanks for your help!

Ok, popnuts, can you think of another tune with the same tempo sans all the nasty things 6th graders shouldn't be swinging their hips to?

-Die Another Day from Die Another Day by Madonna (the tempo for this one is very close to 'Lady Marmalade' as far as I could tell).

-Oh Yeah by Yello from 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'.

-Hip to be Square by Huey Lewis & the News from 'American Psycho'. (The song is okay, but maybe they shouldn't be dancing to stuff from 'American Psycho'. Has it been in something else?)

Also, I prefer to be called a pop-tart as opposed to a pop-nut.

Ok, tart. Here's the take. "Lady Marmalade" was the most popular signature song from the film Moulin Rouge, so going with this "formula," here are a few possibilities:

    "Men in Black" from ?

    "All Star" from Shrek

"Independent Women Pt 1" from Charlie's Angels

"Groove is in the Heart" from Charlie's Angels (sample courtesy of an unused cue from Herbie Hancock's Blow Up). Ok, this song is not really associated with Angels as it was a hit in its own right, but still considerable.

Personally, it would be funny to see these young gals dance to Paul Oakenfold's remix of Danny Elfman's Planet of the Apes "Rule the Planet"!!!

    Keep 'em coming...
