Does anyone know when this album is going to be released? I've heard of people having seen the movie already. I read one of Dan's interviews and it said that it had a lot of African influences. Any comments from those who might know more than me?

There is a soundtrack CD listed for this movie at amazon.co.uk

Not sure how much of that is score though.

Anyone have word on a U.S. release?

Here's the tracklisting from amazon.co.uk. No artists listed but I'm guessing it's mostly Goldenthal score. Oh, and it's out March 10th over here in London...

    2. Lucky Eyes
    3. A Thousand Kisses...
    4. Endorphin Spoon
    5. Verite
    6. Ouverture Francais
    7. Parisien Du Nord
    8. Snake 5
    9. Noir C'est Noir
    10. Waltz For Anna

    12. 36 Hadjini Street
    13. Je T'Aime ... Moi Non Plus

Just be sure you don't hand your Goldenthal CD to Goldsmith for an autograph. He'll probably smack you and tell you his name is "Goldsmith" not "Goldenthal" you silly fanboy.

I saw the film the other day: Goldenthal's score is a low key, jazzy-ish, piano and strings kind-of-thing. Not recognisably Goldenthal style at all. I'd say the score is for completists only.

So will this album be out in the States at any time? Wasn't Varese due to release it?

I guess if you live with your head buried in the sand it won't be out in the U.S. for a long time, so sit tight; I'm holding the CD in my hand, I got it like two weeks ago at HMV (here in Canada, of course), and it's on Island Records (from Universal, no less), so you really should have no trouble finding this soundtrack.

Goldenthal said his score has African influences? Was he joking? If that was his intent, it's hard to tell, maybe even impossible (except for a tiny bit of percussion). It's mostly sad jazzy tracks, kinda boring, nothing special. Here are the score cues on the disc:

    02. Lucky eyes (2:30)
    04. Endorphin Spoon (1:17)
    06. Overture Français (1:54)
    08. Snake 5 (3:10)
    10. Waltz For Anna (1:39)
    12. 36 Hadjini Street (1:50)
    14. Confession To JC With Love (1:17)
    16. Redemption Rehearsal (8:38)

You know, what actually stands out in the film, and it's a pretty good film (very stylish), are the songs that are used, not Goldenthal's music. Like Leonard Cohen's "A Thousand Kisses...", seemingly Nick Nolte's theme; Khaled's "Minuit", which is awesome, if you like Arabic / Algerian music, and Cheb Mami's "Parisien Du Nord" is also very effective in the film. I think this is an excellent CD, even if it didn't have Goldenthal's OK score, it's a worthwhile purchase.
