Just came across this Dutch commercial for Volkswagen. I had to smile when I recognized the music, as its use is particularly apt here. See if you can recognize it (hint: look closely at what the hitcher is holding).

Erm,

Maybe it's my connection, but I couldn't make out what the guy was holding...or were you referring to the apple?

Didn't recognise the music either...shame on me.

Camillu, I agree the quality is crap. Solution: right click on the clip with your mouse, choose "play in RealPlayer" and then enlarge the screen.

Hmm. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre?" Sounds like it, though it's been years since I've seen the film.

Two of my favorite uses of movie music in commercials are:

The M&M commercial featuring the main theme from "American Beauty."

The Ragu commercial featuring "Born Free."

Jeff C.: close, but no cigar. At least you saw what he was holding.

It's from Sam Raimi's first film, Evil Dead. It was written by Jospeh LuDuca.

Yes, I can see the connection.

Sometimes I think my old '91 Jetta was possessed by the EVIL DEAD.

When will they come for my '96? I expect fairly soon.

Well, that car one with a resurrected Steve McQueen and the BULLETT music was cool. In fact, that Lalo Schifrin theme is one of the coolest things of all time.

In the European Cartoon Network there is a new KINDER (Easter Egg) Commercial with James Horner's WILLOW Theme (that "march" thingy).

Ken, that Kinder add has run ont TV in the UK too, I spotted that recently and didn't know what the hell was going on as I heard it before I turned to look at the television and saw it. I thought maybe Kilmer and Davis were back for some great chocolate adventure or something...

We had/have some commercials here that I liked for Canteach.co.uk. They made nice use of Thomas Newman scores (Scent of a Woman and Meet Joe Black).

You were faster, I was going to say that.

It's not a Horner theme though, it's the Schumann theme...

I like the use of a piece from Plunkett and Macleane in one of the NASCAR commercials.

There's a fine rip of Horner's A BEAUTIFUL MIND main titles in an American commercial for prescription rheumatoid arthritis medicine...!
