FROM COUSIN ZOOBA:
Just got THE DEVIL'S BRIGADE on DVD for a great price of $8.31 and couldn't pass it up. I had never really heard the Original Score, just that Leroy Holmes album. North's score runs approx. 28 mins and features a wonderfully exhuberent Main Title in the Elmer B. GREAT ESCAPE vein. A nicely orchestrated Military March mixed with a familiar sounding Irish Melody. It's a great 2:50 Main Title. The main body of the score consist of more subdued incidental music of the Main and Irish themes, A very short but energetic cue scoring Snow Ski Training, a Marching Band Version of the Main Theme and then some more atmospheric scoring of the soldiers sneeking into a town using the themes with generic low end piano flavorings. More of the same for the soldiers climbing the mountain at the end of picture. The End Title is just a shorter variation of the Main. I do like this score and think it would make a great CD coupled with another unreleased North Score or War Related Score. Perhaps there was much more music written and recorded but not used in the film? I love Alex North's music and miss his presence in the film world. Wonder what gems he would be continuing to give us if he were still around. What are your thoughts on this Score/Film and does it merit a CD Release? The Film itself was entertaining but pretty standard Light War fare. The story of a group of American and Canadian soldiers who really don't like each other, coming together to fight the real enemy. Okay performances by William Holden, Cliff Robertson and Richard Dawson to name a few with other good supporting actors. Claude Akins plays a bully who after getting his ass kicked a few times becomes nice and even has a unintentional silly crying scene when his Irish buddy Sgt. Peacock gets it. Also enjoy hearing people say "Mach Snell" in movies as well. Anyway, I made a nice CDR of 28:00 minutes I heard in it. I named the cues which appear below. Thanks, piero2 THE DEVIL'S BRIGADE SCORE
