The surprise is that Howard Shore was NOT nominated for "The Two Towers."

The good news is that Elmer was nominated and that "Burn it Blue" from Frida was nominated.

TTT not nominated for score doesn't surprise me that much, it's a sequel score. But that Gollum's Song didn't get a nomination is a scandal.

"Gollum's Song" could have easily replaced that Wild Thornberry's junk, or even the M&M song. Shame!

I actually don't mind the Eminem song, and I haven't heard the Thornberrys one, but I still think Gollum's song is a glaring omission. I was so looking forward to seeing it performed on stage. Now half the world can tune in to the oscars to watch Eminem. Hurrah!

Why is it that John Williams is guaranteed a nomination basically whatever he does, while Danny Elfman, who also consistently turns out superb scores, is systematically ignored?

    There's the ol´question again...
    Go figure.

The Academy has never thought highly of Elfman, and managed to ignore his entire output to date. I've heard several theories on this, but never a fully satisfying explanation. The most common is that Elfman employs a number of "helpers" to flesh out his ideas...but that doesn't account for Hans Zimmer, so I have no idea what their beef with him is.

Don't expect Elfman's exile to change any time soon.

Already got the head start. She'll never catch me.

Besides, I'm not afraid. Many have tried, none have succeeded.

Williams is always an Academy favorite, but this year I'd like to see Road to Perdition win.

But what do I know? I'm just a backwater hick.

    A fair list.

I think the Academy wants ratings that´s why they nominated the Eminem song. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

And they want to be taken seriously.

    Go Road to Perdition!

Granted, I haven't heard the others, but it is my favorite this year, with the possible exception of Two Towers.

Nah. I am actually surprised he was nominated, seeing as the Music Branch is made of people of the age that generally does not embrace rap music. If you have heard the song, it is a great song, and fits beautifully with the context of the film. I'd say it does so much more than any of the other nominees.

But yes, the ratings will spike when he performs. I'm assuming he'll be there. I doubt he'd turn down a chance to make the ABC sensors jittery (even though I don't think the song has dirty words). But this will be another good year for song performances: Eminem, Paul Simon, U2, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger. Can't wait.

I'm glad that Eminem was nominated. I hope he wins. I just want to see his acceptance speech. I know that will be funny. Even funnier is what will he wear to the awards! Anyway felt his song was really great! I thought it had a lot of depth and emotion. I had been singing all summer long. I not surprised the commitee nominated it. It was too catchy!

I am very glad that Madonna and all her campaigning didn't get her a nomination! Arnold wrote a good score for Die Another Day but it wasn't an Oscar score. If she had gotten a nomination that would have been a slap in Arnold's face.

John Williams is the master. He must and will be nominated. The wrong score was nominated but we all know that nominations are based on a body of work and not always the nomination.

Ah, the nominees are okay. I would have personally liked to see The two towers either for best score or best song (Gollum’s song) and no Eminem.
I really liked Williams’s catch me if you can, but I liked the chamber of secrets even better.
    My favorite: Road to perdition.

Well, personally I'm glad that Eminem was nominated. It's good to see Rap/Hip Hop getting this kind of recognition, plus it's absolutely essential to the film. Of those songs I've heard, possibly the only one more deserving of a nomination was Gollum's Song.

I don't mind the Eminem song, but it's deffinately not Oscar material.

As far as the scores go, the only that I've heard are Catch Me If You Can and Road To Perdition. Personally, I don't think Catch Me is even really oscar worthy. I told people that it's sure to be nominated due to the fact that it's Williams. And I think that is why it was nominated. But I do love Road To Perdition. I look forward to hearing the other nominations soon.
