I don't know where Richard Street is. He usually is on top of these Varese updates. So here goes:

    Frank Herbert’s CHILDREN OF DUNE
    Original Television Soundtrack

    Music Composed by Brian Tyler

    SUSAN SARANDON
    ALEC NEWMAN
    DANIELA AMAVIA

    A 6-Hour Epic Miniseries

SCI FI’s premiere of the epic miniseries Frank Herbert’s Dune virtually doubled all previous viewership records for the Channel, with a remarkable 4.4 rating (2,917,000 HHs) in December 2000. In addition to being the most-watched program in the history of the channel, the six-hour epic earned a place among the top 10 of all original basic-cable miniseries in the past five years. Frank Herbert’s Dune also earned two Emmys in the fall of 2001 for its cinematography and special effects.

Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune is based on Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, the second and third novels in Herbert’s award-winning, six-volume Dune saga. The new miniseries continues the saga of the Atreides dynasty. Under Paul Muad’dib’s rule as Emperor, the planet Arrakis has enjoyed a renaissance. However, the revolution Muad’dib has inspired has transformed into a brutal jihad and a conspiracy threatens to rob Muad’dib of his throne and his life. The future of all of humanity rests in the hands of Muad’dib’s heirs — specifically his son, Leto II, who is destined to become a force for sweeping changes, both on Arrakis and in the universe at large. In the end, Leto II must risk sacrificing his own humanity for the sake of humanity itself. Joining the ensemble cast for this epic sequel is Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon in the role of Wensicia, a ruthless princess eager to restore her deposed family to the imperial throne.

The epic score for choir and orchestra, which has partially been heard in trailers for the film, already has fans of the books anxiously awaiting the soundtrack release. It was composed by Brian Tyler (Darkness Falls, The Hunted) and is bold and striking music on a grand scale. We’re talking Gladiator proportions!

Children of Dune premiers March 16, 17 and 18 on the Sci-Fi Channel, with many rebroadcasts to follow.

    Catalog #: 302 066 454 2
    Release Date: 03/18/03

Nice to see them not holding in the reins on describing the score. They must have a deal with Brian Tyler. This will be the third score of his they've released in less than a month.

Right, sure. Like Star Trek Nemesis was supposed to be the best film score ever written for a motion picture.
Not to mention the first digitally recorded one.

As for the movie, I hope the cheap cardboard sets from the first one have been replaced with something that at least tries to look real.

I loved the DUNE miniseries on SciFi, and bought the DVD as soon as it came out. For me the only disappointment was the music, which is extremely poor (in an epic story that begs for a memorable score). Every time I watch it, I wonder what John Harrison could possibly have been thinking about when he accepted that abysmal conglomeration of squeaks and squawks!

I certainly hope that Tyler's CHILDREN OF DUNE score (unlike its predecessor) will be up to the dramatic requirements of the story.
