Well, Ryan at Cinemusic.net has reported it so I guess it's safe to tell you all that Michael Giacchino will not be composing the music to the next installment of the Medal of Honor series. I found out from Michael today that he will still be working on Alias, which is going great, as well as some other projects to be named later. Saint Sinner composer Christopher Lennertz will be taking the place of Michael as composer of the Medal of Honor series.-Erik-

*sniff*The series won't be the same without him...best game scores ever, imho.
Can't wait to hear about the unnamed projects. I hope its a movie!

While I agree that Giacchino's touch will be missed on MOH, I'm very excited to hear what Chris Linnertz' talents will produce. My intuitions tell me this could be a nice, fresh change for the series.

After listen to all 3 MOH soundtracks, I feel that Giacchino has completly emptied his bag of tricks.I wasn't really satisfied with Saint Sinner all that much but, looking at the rediculous movie, I'd just like to shake Lennertz hand, and say "Nice try, but that was an imposible job!, I think MOH has alot of possibilities, and I look forward to hearing what you'd do."
.... oh wait, its still going to be orchestral right? Let's try less Indiana Jones and more..Platoon including the Adagio for Strings.

TimT..have you played the games? It NEEDS "Indiana Jones-ish" music. And it does have quiet, Platoon-like, music...the 3rd one especially. The choir adds a great dramatic touch in the missions.
I for one, hope they use Giacchino's themes in the next MOH games, although this is unlikely.
I can't fathom anyone not really liking the MOH music. It has gotten great reviews, and not just from we soundtrack folk...its raved about in all the gaming magazines. It has themes, depth, great action tracks, and constantly supports the action onscreen.
BobaMike(who still remembers flocking to the nearest best buy when I heard that they were stupidly selling MOH:U for .99!)

Yes...I own all 3 games. And you're right Frontline does have some Platoon like parts.
I just wanna see how something a little less bombastic would work thats all.posted 01-23-2003 08:50 PM PT (US)

I just wanna see how something a little less bombastic would work thats all.But it's an action/ adventure game... what did you expect? Now there are, as you mentioned, some "Platoon" like cues on the Frontline soundtrack, but if you heard cues like that throughout the entire game you honestly would get bored playing the game. MOH is a shoot'um action game which needs some pretty aggressive action material. And I applaud Michael for adding those slower more dramatic cues to the mix which definitely proves that he has an incredibly diverse style.

The full story...Giacchino Departs Medal Of Honor Franchise to Score New Projects
From Music4Games.net
Acclaimed composer Michael Giacchino, who is currently scoring the hit TV show Alias, recently revealed to M4G that he will no longer be composing for the Medal Of Honor game series, in order to pursue other projects. He spoke frankly about the reasons for his departure from the Medal Of Honor franchise, suggesting he had little room for manoeuvre when it came to the final decision.
"This is a story that goes back months, now", he said. "As you know, I will no longer be composing scores for the Medal of Honor series from EA. As you may also know, the main team that had been making the MOH games is now no longer at EA. Some left and went on to other companies - others decided it was time for a change, and struck out on their own to form a new company and make their own games. In any event, shortly after they left, EA contacted me to work on their next installment of MOH. I said that I would love to be a part of the project. EA, however, said that in order for me to work on it, I would have to sign an exclusive deal saying that I wouldn't work on certain other projects (aka "with certain other people") for a three year period. I answered that I didn't feel right about fulfilling such a request, but would still really like to put my best efforts into the next installment MOH. They ended their talks there and that's when they went off to look for a new composer."
Early reports indicate that Michael Giacchino's replacement will likely be Christopher Lennertz whose credits include music for the SciFi TV series Saint Sinner. Although we were unable to get an official comment from EA in time for this article, we understand from close sources they are currently finalizing the contract.
Michael concluded, "I am very proud of the work that I did for the MOH series and I am very disappointed in EA for ending a five year relationship so easily and over such insignificant details. But I am working on other projects and at this time I am still quite happy where I am. I will miss the MOH franchise, but I feel my decision was the right one. And that's the more important matter. And there you have it. Art vs. Business. I suppose this is what they mean when they use the term 'creative differences'."
In 2001 Michael Giacchino's score for Medal Of Honor Underground received best Original Music Composition from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences and his music for the series has continued to receive huge critical acclaim in the games industry and beyond. Giacchino will continue to write for Alias and is currently working on other game projects.
