Bernard Herrmann's Twilight Zone scores are absolutely gorgeous. "Walking Distance" and "The Lonely" are two of the greatest scores of any medium I've ever heard. If you're a Herrmann fan, I'd highly recommend his scores for Twilight Zone.

Kevin, maybe she meant 'new' as in, released in the last 5 years?

If you like Herrmann, you will love those. The two CD set of his scores from the TV show are fantastic. On Varese. I like just about every one of them. They remind me of other radio and TV music he did back then. I have recordings of "The Moat Farm Murders" and "The Hitchhiker" on Cerberus and music he did for Alfred Hitchcock Presents also was fantastic. The two above radio shows were tracked on some of the Twilight Zone episodes too. Exc. J.

Although many people raved about the re-recordings of the complete Herrmann scores for THE TWILIGHT ZONE, I wasn't as thrilled with the renditions as they were.

What I suggest is spending the bucks to get the 4 CD 40th Anniversary TWILIGHT ZONE set on Silva Screen Records. These are the original recordings from the 50s (supposedly re-recorded for the CBS library at the time but I'm pretty sure these are the original tracks). Herrmann is represented by The Lonely, Walking Distance, Where Is Everybody?, The Hitchhiker, a suite of library cues, and the 1st season title theme. There's also choice Goldsmith: The Invaders, Back There, and Nervous Man in a Four Dollar Room which are among the best things he ever did. Plus the collection has other nice gems by Waxman, Rosenman, Van Cleave, and Fred Steiner.

Of course, this collection is missing two Herrmann gems, Little Girl Lost and Living Doll, that the re-recordings on Varese include. But given the choice between only one set or the other, even only for the Herrmann alone, I'd still have to go with the Silva set.

I looked for it at the MM.com store but couldn't find it. The $8 single CD "Best of Twilight Zone" they do have contains some of the material in the 4 CD set but obviously not all.

    See it at http://www.moviemusic.com/CD/twilightzone1.html

There is a second CD of the Best of TZ as well. But I can't imagine that the 40th anniversary set is out of print but who knows. You may have to check back at Amazon.com or other places.
