Is there any chance Bernsteinīs rejected score to GANGS OF NEW YORK will ever be reached by our ears?

    Dan? You going to answer?

So the record, as i see it, is Bernstein stands as the most "rejected" film score composer. And Mark Snow, as far as i know, never been "rejected".

I remember hearing an anecdote from a major film composer who had a score jettisoned. Another composer (possibly Mancini?) called to lend support and told him: "Don't worry. You're not really a man out here until you've had a score thrown out."

It's happened to most of the major composers. I can't think of a junked Williams score, but there must be one somewhere.

You have to actually write scores for feature films that matter to have a score rejected.

I hope that Bernstein's score gets a release. I was really looking forward to this.

I didn't like the film very much (I had really been excited about it, too), and found much of the music that was used to be of dubious relevance, particularly towards the end of the opening battle.

According to something that was sent to me...
    quote:
"At tonight's record-signing/Q&A session at Borders Books in Westwood, California, Elmer Bernstein went on the record and said that it was Weinstein who stripped GANGS OF NEW YORK of the score EB had written, over the vigorous objections of Martin Scorsese.

And like the rest of the email said:

    quote:
Well, there are persistent rumors of "director's cut" being considered for dvd. Keep you fingers crossed.

Of the "films that matter" that you've listed, I know only X-Files...
Born To Be Wild is lost on me

Born To Be Wild? You didn't miss much, but the score is enjoyable.

I'll bet you..... 10.00 bucks (I'm cheap) that Varese will release the rejected score.

I recall liking the Disturbing Behaviour score in the movie.
Would have bought one if Universal's lazy posterior had gotten in faster. By the time the album came out in local stores, I didn't care.
Apparently, the album is still around.

Let us not forget those timeless masterpieces Oldest Living Confederate Living and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Sarcasm aside, I like Snow. His X-Files and Millenium stuff is nothing short of incredible.

Gosh darnet! Dan! And JAke Speed is my favorite movie score by him, but i can't remember everything you know.
And i own every single Snow cd out there except The Snow Files, but rest assured, as soon as Peter has it in the used section he'll recieve the enevitable e-mail from me.

And JJH, i was only counting movie score, OLCWTA and 20,000 are tv movies, the latter half being a mini-series.

Skateboard i like to forget ever happened.

Cold Dog Soup i didn't even know, but just so i can top you Danny, don't forget What Dreams May Come (additional music).

But let's get back to what this thread was about shall we?
