    Folks,

After the recent slew of John Williams 2cd deluxe editions from Varese such as The Fury, Home Alone 2- I am wondering if a deluxe ed. of Williams DRACULA score is not far behind? The Goldsmith Deluxe ed. of Damien:OMEN II points out that the existing (OOP)Varese album is like wise an re-recording-which is great news to me.Since I havent got that cd and will look forward to a 2cd expanded deluxe edition along with the remastered re-recording and the original score.

Anyone willing to share my enthusiam?

    cheers
    Amer

I know one, certain majestic cat that would do friggin handstands, were this to be released.

Personally, I'd welcome it as well, another interesting comparison of film vs. recording....I think both were done with the London Symphony, but perhaps mixed differently for film & album? Anyone have more info?

Well right now they are releasing films from the Fox vault. Dracula was done by Universal, but it was recorded overseas with the LSO so I would imagine it could be available to be done.

I would crawl across hot coals for an expanded Dracula. Or Monsignor. Or Spacecamp. Or Empire of the Sun. Or Home Alone.

When I read the subject line I thought my dream had come true! Well it's about time someone agrees with me about this one! I've felt like a man in the wilderness for years (see a number of my previous posts about this score) and FINALLY someone other than me has the same idea. It just amazes me that with all the Williams fans out there, no one seems to care about this one getting an expanded/complete release.

The problem probably does lie with the fact it's Universal. But if anything would have a cross-over appeal (i.e. a market outside of film scores) I would think it's this one, just due to the fact it's a vampire flick and Dracula, no-less, which has been out for over 20 years. Horror/vampire/Dracula should equal good sales since there are people who would buy it just due to the fact it's vampire related, regardless of whether or not they'd ever listen to it. But then I'm just a film-score shlub so what do I know!

I believe this is a very good chance of happening (keeping the existing trend) and Varese club would probably have this up next in their agenda..BUT I'd be ecstatic if they were to release Williams MONSIGNOR as well...oh well. the mind swirls with enless possibilities...

As I seem to share the same enthusiasm for Williams' DRACULA score as Majestyx does, it would certainly be a dream-come-true if anyone released the full original score for this Gothic horror gem. One reason for the nowadays-Williams-fans' lack of enthusiasm for this score may be that they have only heard the MCA/Varese re-recording album and not seen the movie itself. Because really, in the movie, the score is much more versatile and more exciting than on the album. And as I've said previously, the authentic DRACULA score is REALLY hundred-times better than THE FURY score (both the re-recording and the original score).

I once did an amateur track listing of all the authentic score of Williams' DRACULA... This could be a better thread to include them, so everybody would have an idea how much music there actually is on this original masterpiece score.

    Going to search for them...

    KEN

    Well, Azahid,
it seems you - and neither Majestyx - have been around when I made the post on the same subject (I gave it a <bumb> to return it on the top of the list for awhile).

Anyway, here is the "fantasy" track listing of the authentic DRACULA score by John Williams:

1 Main Title & Storm Sequence
2 Meeting in the Cave (Dracula & Mina)
    3 Bat Attack (Part 1)
    4 Dracula Introduction
    5 (source music)
    6 For Mina (1st variation)
    7 (source music)
    8 Wallcrawler I / Dracula & Mina
9 Dracula & Renfield / Morning Sun (a MOST happy theme in the great Williams tradition)
    10 For Mina (2nd variation)
11 Drive to Carfax Abbey (happy theme reprise)
12 Dracula & Harker / Harker Sees the Bat
    13 For Mina (Final Version)
14 Lucy's Arrival at Carfax Abbey
    15 (source music? "The Dinner")
16 Mina Through the Window (Abducting Annie's Child)
    17 Dracula's Kiss / The Book
    18 Dracula's Horse / Visiting Mina's Grave
    19 The White Horse
20 Night Journeys (Intro) / Love Scene
21 Encountering the Undead Mina (Bat Attack Part 2)
    22 Van Helsing Encounters Dracula
    23 A Graveyard Operation / Lucy's Escape
24 To Carfax Abbey / Encountering Dracula
25 Jonathan & Lucy (The Night Visitor)
26 Wolf Approaches / Wallcrawler II
27 The Abduction of Lucy (the movie version features a chilling chorus)
    28 To Scarborough
    29 Dracula's Death
    30 End Titles

Once more, AMAZING SCORE with some of the most beautiful Gothic Romantic horror music ever created for the silver screen !!

I would happily buy an expanded remastered release. If it was a Fox movie, I would in fact have betted that this might be Varese's next club title. But perhaps there is still hope.

I have to disagree with you though, Ken: No score is a hundred times better than The Fury.

Marian, I'm surprised that YOU, of all the people, represent those who make their opinion without seeing - and hearing - the movie first.

How do you know I haven't seen it? You're right though, I haven't. I can't say that the score in the movie isn't as good as, or even better, than Fury's, though I very highly doubt that. But I'm absolutely certain that no score ever composed is a HUNDRED times better.

Because I'm a superior, God-like creature with telepathic powers. Seriously though, an elephant never forgets, and neither does Ken. Just look at my old Dracula thread - you say it right there, that you haven't seen the movie.

Well, it depends... For example I have absolutely no problems saying that HEARTBEEPS is a THOUSAND times better score than HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE, or that the original RETURN OF THE JEDI score is a MILLION times better than ATTACK OF THE CLONES...

Yes, but wasn't that months ago? I would have watched it in the meantime had it been on TV. But unfortunately, I don't think it has been on TV here since I know the scores (i.e. in years).

    Marian,
Although you like to regard the HARRY POTTER books as fantastic detective stories, you don't seem to be capable of using your head in as simple cases as this one.

    Apparently not - I'm confused.
